Songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Suubi taught himself to play in his bedroom — first in his native Uganda, and then in his new home in Maryland. His debut EP, ‘Casa’s Journal,’ showcases his gentle, introspective R&B. In this exclusive commentary, Suubi discusses the making of key tracks from the project, from the debut single “Growth” (which he shares grew out of a school assignment) to “Changes,” which he says considers “my outlook on my place in life.” The track “Incognizant” was written not long after he arrived in the US, Suubi reflects, sharing how it compares the distance between where he is now, where he came from and where he may belong.
