Our third label podcast comes from a the French veteran Volta. Lock in for a near 1 hour selection of the finest drum & bass 🎧

A pioneer and essential figure in the development of the Drum n Bass scene in France.

Resident DJ of the legendary Jungle Vibes nights at Gibus and host of the weekly radio show More Breakz on Radio Nova from 1997 to 2002.

He also created “Reflex” at What's Up Bar and OPA Paris, to shine a light on the emergent French DnB scene. 

At the end of the nineties, the “Plastic” and “Asphalte” parties at Arapaho confirmed an eclectic musical vision of his talent as a DJ.

With the help of FX909, in 2001 they release Asphalte Recordings on which they will produce several singles and the Perspectives LP in 2002 for Black Tambour recordings.

The formation “La Cible Mouvante” including FX909, DJ Ben and Activ managed to sign singles on English labels Smokers Inc. and Urban Takeover.

In 2014, Volta is back for a weekly show on Rinse.fr called “The Pressure Show” plus a new residency at OPA Paris alongside Anakyne and DJ Science.

Now it’s beside sound Enforcers crew that you can listen to his sharp style oscillating between the dark shades of DnB and the luxurious paths of the Worldwide Jungle.

Sound Enforcers Podcast 03 - Volta

For our 905th RA Podcast, we're proud to welcome Goldie, one of the most famous, talented and important electronic music artists of all time. Starting out as a graffiti artist, he eventually made music under the name Rufige Kru, helping push the then-nascent genre of jungle forward with tracks like "Krisp Biscuit (Power)" and "Terminator." The latter was released under the name Metalheads, which would later become the name of his label (with a z instead of an s). Metalheadz—which he cofounded with DJ Storm and the late Kemistry—celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and remains the defining outlet of drum & bass, the genre that grew out of jungle that Goldie helped invent with records like 1995's massive crossover album Timeless (alongside countless other classics). He's a producer, DJ, actor and all-around celebrity, a huge personality in UK electronic music.

Goldie is also RA's guest curator this month, and his tenure starts with this mix. We'll have more to come starting this week—check our editor's letter later today for more information—but for now, here's a survey of drum & bass past and present from a man who helped invent the genre. With plenty of new Metalheadz material plus a healthy dose of older tracks, these two hours lay out the history of Metalheadz, drum & bass and its various subgenres, from twinkling liquid to rumbling techstep. It's the first part of a month celebrating Goldie's legacy, and we can't wait to show you the rest.

SoulTec Music Podcast Vol3 - Nov 2023

If you've been following Sonicrampage for a long time, or even for a short time, you're probably aware that I love fast music! What I haven't typically done in my DJ career has been to make mixes that are more, shall we say, mellow. 

Let's change that! 

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I've recently started to enjoy more downtempo sounds, and so here is this, the first actual proper downtempo / trip-hop mix I've ever recorded. 

Why did I call it a short window to chill? Well, basically because I actually had a very short window to make this mix. I recorded it off the cuff in thirty minutes the night before our summer vacation. It's not perfect, but it's pretty cool! These tunes are quality.

Live set from 20/11/2023 for Energy 1058's Producer Showcase Event.. Each DJ had to select a producer of their choice and play an hours set of just that one artists tracks.. My choice on the night was Genotype / Just Jungle (Couple of tunes under the Mastermind alias also included in this set)..

A proper musician who's tunes hit everything that is authentic and uncompromising about DnB & Jungle for me and always have done since I first heard one of his tracks in 96 (Listen Tune).. Utmost respect for what his music stands for and hope that the set shows that.. Nice one again to all at Energy 1058 for having me on the show again also.. Peace

Episode 340 brings us a mix from a favorite producer of mine, Ricky Force!!

Before we get to the mix, I would like to highlight 3 of Ricky Force's tracks, which I think all of you should pick up. This is going to be difficult to pick only 3, but I'm going to give it a shot. Pick up Special, Severed, and 147, these are wicked, wicked, tunes!!

Ricky's mix is an all vinyl foray that is dark and moody! The first half of the mix features some classics, which the headz will recognize, set between, dark, upfront tunes! The second half of the mix is dominated by amen punishers, dark and deadly! Ricky smashes this mix!

Let's meet our selektah for episode 340, Ricky Force:

RICKY FORCE
Based in Dublin, Ireland, Ricky Force started out on his musical path with the Bassbin crew, playing on legendary pirate radio station Power FM in the late '90s. Taking his cue from the golden era of Jungle and early Drum n Bass, Ricky spent years honing his skills, first on the decks, and then as a producer, but throughout, he stayed true to his passion for chopped-up rolling rhythms, and for the deepest of subs.

Moving to London in the early 2000's, Ricky lived with old friend Fracture, sharing a house previously occupied by Alix Perez and Rockwell. There, surrounded by a new generation of talent, Ricky focused on his production, taking the opportunity to learn and grow as a producer. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, crafting his music into what is now a very distinctive style - a sound for which he is gaining increasing recognition worldwide. 

Starting off with releases on DSCi4 and 36 Hertz, Ricky has by now notched up more than 20 vinyl releases for original old skool Jungle labels like AKO Recordings, Flex Records, Skeleton Recordings, and the mighty Reinforced - alongside their spiritual descendants at labels like Criterion and Repertoire. Meanwhile Ricky also continues to issue quality jams on his own label Pressin' Hard Records, which has made these limited edition cuts 'buy-on-sight' for connoisseurs of that original Jungle sound. And with support from such luminaries as Randall, Ray Keith, Scar, DJ Stretch, Mark Pritchard and Om Unit, you know that Ricky's tunes are guaranteed quality.

Behind the decks, Ricky's love of the music is evident in the care he takes to craft and deliver a set. Time and again, he's ripped the roof off parties across Europe and the USA: from Boomtown to Bangface, and from Rupture in London to Respect in L.A. Most recently, he rinsed it out at the Skeleton Vs. Repertoire night in London. 

A Ricky Force set always delivers a sweet mix of brand new cuts with timeless classics, bolstered by a few choice esoteric selections guaranteed to make even those who know their tunes scratch their heads. But this is no old skool trainspotting exercise - a Ricky Force set is all about the dance, and Ricky never fails to bring the energy.
