In Itinere Soundscapes is about landscapes, routes, walks, travels told through sound; a collection of experiences and sound sensations. You will find a series of nearly unprocessed field recordings and some soundscape compositions. The main subjects of this project are natural and rural soundscapes, with a focus on everything that needs to be preserved.

My name is Stan Rullman and I serve as the Director of Research for Earthwatch Institute. I have been involved in recording the sounds of the natural world for over 30 years, and more recently became interested in the analysis of soundscapes and using audio as a tool for assessing species presence on the landscape. In 2019, I participated in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Sound Analysis Workshop, and highly recommend that program for those interested in a more scientific approach to sound analysis.

Today's high-speed, high-anxiety social media culture is a 24/7 torrent of noise and flimflammery. As my sweet, now-departed mother-in-law would say, it's "crazy-making!"

MinnesotaSoundscapes.com is my small attempt to offer a measure of temporary relief from the madness. It's a collection of stereo sound portraits captured in quiet, remote locations across northern Minnesota. No music, just clean, spacious natural ambiences.

(WARNING: This material won't grab you by the ankles and swing you around in circles the way you might expect from some of your favorite music. If you choose to listen, be prepared to "throttle yourself back" and allow these nature soundscape recordings to settle over you in their own good time. If you're able to do that, there's a good chance that you might enjoy a rewarding listening experience.)
