The post-dusk twilight ambience of the cypress swamp around Sullivan Lake is a loud, but steady chorus of various frog species all calling out in their own niche, like an invisible orchestra of tiny instruments. The bugle-like honking of Green Tree Frogs, the tiny snores of Cope's Gray Tree Frogs, the infrequent banjo-twangs of Green Frogs, and the distant marble-clicking of Blanchard's Cricket Frogs on the lake itself.
Above it all call Lesser Angle-wing Katydids from the treetops, while crickets of many types create a steady stream trills and chirps from wherever they can.

The spectrogram of a swampy night like this is a beautiful piece of orchestration, perfectly illustrating the Acoustic Niche hypothesis.

A herd of red cows approaching us from front and passing by on a warm September noon of 2019 at the hills of Southern Urals. Lots of energetic mooing, shepherd shouts and whistles, some birds chirping and moderate wind. I love this recording for its brutal and raw energy.

For a long time I wanted to record a really surrounding, enveloping and moving wind through reed. I found the perfect conditions at the forest lakes in Karelia. This track sounds like some witches are chattering around, whispering their spells.
