'Midnight Letters' [Andrew Tasselmyer & Blurstem] [PITP-C027]

I've got a very lovely piano piece for you this morning from the ever-lovely Moderna imprint, which continues to scour the hidden corners of the scene to bring you some of the most heartfelt music. This one comes from the emerging [and pretty young] Augsburg-based (Germany) composer Linus Alberg, offering us his label debut, titled Elements. On this collection of eight tracks, Alberg shares his sentimentality, initially inspired by the changing of the seasons but somehow evoking something else entirely, at least in me, as if uncovering a buried key to a forgotten memory. His incredible compositional musicality is only surpassed by the execution, whereby remarkably gentle melodies effortlessly flutter in the curated space, held together by the solid bass, frequency-rich harmonium, and occasional echoes of the breathy trumpet, played here by Matthias Lindermayr. Oh, but then, there is that Yamaha upright that carries a flavour so lush of its own. Here, Alberg is able to ring out the textural tone shifts with his exceptional, flawless control of the instrument, painting wide pastel landscapes with a gorgeous sonic palette. And yeah, okay, I am jealous. I'm jealous that I'm no longer in my twenties, making music as beautiful as this. But that is okay. I'm delighted. I'm happy to sidestep and listen and offer this space to a lovely new voice.

Sound In Silence proudly announces the return of SineRider, presenting his new album Perennial.

This is his third album on the label after the highly acclaimed Four Years Away in 2018 and A Familiar Light in 2021.

SineRider is the solo project of Berklee College of Music composer Devin Powers, based in Norwood, Massachusetts. For over a decade, he has been producing his sublime music, ranging from ambient and electronica to shoegaze and post-rock, having many releases on labels such as Sun Sea Sky, Archives, Dronarivm and others, or self-released. He has also recorded instrumental music of a variety of genres like indie, slowcore, lo-fi, dubstep and 8-bit, under many different aliases such as Senseed, Bleepy Bloopy, Hooting Everywhere and Reanu Keeves, while he is also one half of the projects Lakewaves and Introspecter, along with Graham Marlowe and Brian Stegmann, respectively.

Perennial, SineRider’s new full-length album, features twelve new compositions of blissful ambience and calming soundscapes. Using layers of warm synths, soothing pads, dreamy piano melodies, twinkling chimes, subtle bass lines, melancholic drones and various effects, Powers creates another beautiful ambient album, exquisitely mastered by George Mastrokostas (Absent Without Leave), that captivates the listener with its mesmerizing textures and dreamlike quality.

Perennial comes in two distinct editions.

The first one is a deluxe limited edition of 50 handmade, hand-stamped and hand-numbered collectible copies. The disc of this edition includes three exclusive bonus tracks, not included in the other edition or the digital download. It is packaged in a lovely, hand-tied, sewn fabric envelope, which includes a 4 panel insert sheet containing tracklist and information printed on a 250 gsm kraft recycled cardboard and the front cover image printed on a polaroid style photo paper. It also comes bundled with a download code coupon and a Sound In Silence card.

The second one is a limited edition of 200 handmade and hand-numbered collectible copies. It is packaged in a lovely hand-stamped 127mm x 127mm 285 gsm light yellow-cream cardboard envelope with the front cover image printed on a polaroid style photo paper and an insert sheet containing tracklist and information printed on a 120 gsm cream recycled cardboard. It also comes bundled with a download code coupon and a Sound In Silence card.
