This is a song made with the Korg Module version of Soundiron Voice Of Rapture - The Soprano, using only the chromatic articulations and effects. The drums are from Soundiron's Knockout Drum. The bass line is Fab Filter Twin. No other sounds or instruments used.

This track is for the Soundiron Rainy Day Contest! It is entirely made of rain samples. There are absolutely no other instruments used in this song. Anything you hear is a stretched/compressed and edited sample played through a sampler.

I got my sounds using the Kontakt sampler, numerous rain samples provided from the contest and an insane amount of effects. Mixed and mastered by myself as well. I hope you like it!

Mike Espinell's demo uses only the sounds that come with Disco 6000.

Soundiron's Disco 6000 captures the historic sounds of the fascinating Solton Disco 64. This analog synthesizer/drum machine was manufactured in Germany between 1978-1982 in a partnership with Ketron. This is early Italo Disco in a box! It has two SSM2040 filters in it, which were used in early iterations of the famous Sequential Circuits Prophet 5. This gives it a recognizable fat analog tone. It includes 36 keys on the removable keyboard, as well as a variety of knobs and buttons to trigger the drum machine. Disco 6000 has preset rhythmic drum loops, as well as synth sustains and staccatos. We recorded the instrument articulations in wide stereo and direct line in. After that, we hand-crafted twenty evolving atmospheric pads from the source content to make this party more bodacious. If you’re looking for warm funky grooves and radical synths to compose your next 1980 dance track, look no further than Disco 6000.

Mike Espinell's demo uses only the sounds from the library Hapi Drums.

Hapi Drums is one of the oldest and highest quality steel tongue drum makers in the world, with unique body designs, tuning options and clear, rich notes that cut cleanly through clusters of carefully-balanced lush and swirling overtones. We recorded these instruments with a wide stereo pair of Neumann microphones and a binaural microphone, giving you plenty of sonic possibilities.

Mike Espinell - Mountain Dwellers (Library Only) - Soundiron Hapi Drums

I'm always looking to shrink the size and weight of my rig. I just love carrying the minimum amount of equipment!  I did this test to see how small I could go with microphone separation without sacrificing quality. All configurations were Clippy EM172 stereo pair to Sony PCM-A10.

My conclusion is that AB40cm rig with simple Rycote lav wind protection gives me a great sound with a very small and light footprint but not great wind protection. The quasi-binaural rig gives perhaps a more accurate stereo field with the advantage of excellent wind protection (it is housed in the equivalent of a blimp with proper windjammer). To get better wind protection for the AB40cm rig would require a massive and heavy (by my standards) blimp.

1. AB20cm - narrow, too narrow...
2. AB30cm - getting wider, pretty nice...
3. AB40cm - wider still but nice balance of width and centre-image?
4. AB60cm - very wide but hole in the middle?
5. Quasi-binaural (20cm spacing with foam cylinder baffles) - improved placement of sounds in the stereo field?
