The "ooh yeah" in nanoBot Racers is the RYM2612 saying it! Not me! It was an accident that it started sounding like voice synthesis, so I tweaked as best I could to make it sound realistic.

The "voice" are run through Numerical Sound ReStereo. Some of the engine sounds are filtered through Numercial Sound Tone Mutation Vocals, using programs like panther, lion, alligator and whale to add and organic resonance.

I also used DLD Technology Revolution Virtual Surround for some of the racer flybys, used especially for the ending.

100% RYM2612 generated sounds.

The growling and catlike sounds are filtered through Numercial Sound Tone Mutation Vocals, using programs like panther, lion, alligator and whale to add an organic resonance.

All RYM2612 generated sounds,  except where I briefly play a few long sustained notes on flute. I challenged myself to not use any sampled cymbals at all, so I spent some time on making them more realistic. I ran a lot of the cymbal patches through The Echo using wobble and diffusion to make them less static. I also then used Numerical Sound ReStereo a lot to add some distance from the ear and again to take the edge off.

CORRECTION: 
100% RYM2612 generated drums and percussion. 

Everything is RYM2612, except where I play electric guitar, 

I mistakenly thought I had samples blended in, is because during song writing and mixing, I used sampled Genesis game kicks and snares to refer to, and gradually removed and replaced them with the closest approximation I could make out of the synth. All cymbals and hats are RYM2612.

I used McDSP FRG eq and compressor a lot, as well as Scream, Pulveriser to shape the kicks and snares.

I need to confirm (by digging into original un-bounced songfile), but I think all sounds and drums, including hats and cymbals are RYM2612. I'm unsure because during writing, I might have used a sampled drum as a reference for making a snare or kick on the RYM2612.

I like the flute/recorder and tuba/tenor horns this chip can make!

One of two entries I originally made for the RYM2612 Song Challenge. I tried to tidy up the mix, and make some additions for including in this album.

Inspiration for this song comes from something, but I can't remember what. If anyone recognizes melodic similarity with anything specific, please let me know.

Omid Ghajar’s official demo is a dressed mix using sounds from Rhythmic Odyssey blended with other libraries.


Rhythmic Odyssey is a loop-based virtual percussion instrument for Kontakt Player that includes a huge open-format modular loop library for use with any software or hardware you wish. This deep and stylistically expansive collection focuses on dynamic live tuned and untuned percussion performances by British instrumentalist and composer David Oliver, known for his brilliant and expressive soundtrack work on award winning programs for BBC and National Geographic.  
David has unleashed his massive collection of drums, percussion and rare world instruments, with powerful, authentic and spirited performances that are carefully and perfectly hand-crafted for easy direct use in films, games and all other forms of multimedia. He captured an incredible variety of percussion instruments and objects, exploring more than 130 distinct instruments from drum kits to raw pine tree logs.

Omid Ghajar - Tick Tock (Dressed) - Soundiron Rhythmic Odyssey

I'm always looking to shrink the size and weight of my rig. I just love carrying the minimum amount of equipment!  I did this test to see how small I could go with microphone separation without sacrificing quality. All configurations were Clippy EM172 stereo pair to Sony PCM-A10.

My conclusion is that AB40cm rig with simple Rycote lav wind protection gives me a great sound with a very small and light footprint but not great wind protection. The quasi-binaural rig gives perhaps a more accurate stereo field with the advantage of excellent wind protection (it is housed in the equivalent of a blimp with proper windjammer). To get better wind protection for the AB40cm rig would require a massive and heavy (by my standards) blimp.

1. AB20cm - narrow, too narrow...
2. AB30cm - getting wider, pretty nice...
3. AB40cm - wider still but nice balance of width and centre-image?
4. AB60cm - very wide but hole in the middle?
5. Quasi-binaural (20cm spacing with foam cylinder baffles) - improved placement of sounds in the stereo field?

Would be very interested to hear what other folks think. Please comment if you care to.
