Sudarshan prabhu - Kirttan of Inspiration

Śrī Śrī Jagannāthāṣṭakam is an ancient Sanskrit composition written by Śrī Śaṅkar Āchārya, an incarnation of Lord Shiva who appeared on this earth from 788-820 AD. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu would chant this composition in great ecstatic joy. The Jagannāthāṣṭakam are eight verses (“āṣṭakam") glorifying Lord Jagannāth, a unique and ecstatic form of Lord Kṛṣṇa,

mahāmbhodhes tīre kanaka-rucire nīla-śikhare
vasan prāsādāntaḥ sahaja-balabhadreṇa balinā
subhadrā-madhya-sthaḥ sakala-sura-sevāvasara-do
jagannāthaḥ svāmī nayana-patha-gāmī bhavatu me (3)

“Residing on the shore of the great ocean, within a large palace situated upon the crest of the brilliant, golden Nīlachala Hill, along with His powerful brother Balabhadra, and in the middle of Them His sister Subhadrā, Lord Jagannāth bestows the opportunity for devotional service upon all godly souls. May that Jagannāthā Svāmī be the object of my vision.”

śrī-svarūpa-rāya-saṅga-gambhirāntya-līlanaṁ
dvādaśābda-vahni-garbha-vipralambha-śīlanam
rādhikādhirūḍha-bhāva-kānti-kṛṣṇa-kuñjaraṁ
prema-dhāma-devam eva naumi gaura-sundaram

“Diving deep into the reality of His own beauty and sweetness, Kṛṣṇa stole the mood of Rādhārāṇī and, garbing Himself in Her brilliant luster, appeared as Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. For the last twelve years of His manifest Pastimes, He was deeply absorbed in the mood of union and separation, and shared His heart’s inner feelings with His most confidential devotees. In the agony of separation from Kṛṣṇa, volcanic eruptions of ecstasy flowed from His heart, and His teachings, known as Śikṣāṣṭakam, appeared from His lips like streams of golden lava. I fall at the feet of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu, the golden volcano of divine love.”

Encoded in the ancient language of Sanskrit and expressing an intensity of divine love never before seen in this world, the deep meanings of the Śikṣāṣṭakam are an impenetrable treasure, inaccessible to anyone who cannot also feel what is expressed therein. Therefore, several hundred years after Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's appearance, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura crafted each verse into a Bengali song that clarifies and elaborates the meaning while exemplifying the feeling expressed in each. Song by song, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda illustrates the progression of the pure hearts’ love for Kṛṣṇa to the highest stages of union-in-separation. 

On this most auspicious occasion of Śrī Gaura-pūrṇimā, the divine appearance of Śrī Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu, we humbly present this offering of Śikṣāṣṭakam. Chanted in the traditional ragas by Bhakti Lalitā Devī, with mṛdaṅga played by Sudarshan Prabhu and karatals played by Anukrishna D.D. and Kanika D.D.;  brought to you by the tireless service of Anantadev Prabhu and with the much appreciated assistance of Gaura Govinda Prabhu at Theistic Media Studios; recording began during the holy month of Kartik when Śikṣāṣṭakam is customarily chanted. Bhakti yoga calls for rejuvenation of the human spirit, when the human vitality is being used for its true purpose, then change will take place. Change (for the better) in the environment, in relationships, in the well being of all living beings.

3 Sri Vaishnava - Mahima - Giti

In Vrindavan, there are many temples and they, their tradition is all the festivals of the whole year can be celebrated during Purshottam month and its non-different than that day. So, in one temple they just choose any day of Purshottam masa and say we are going to celebrate Janmasahtami again and its considered to be the day of Janmasahtami, the tithi and everything its right there. And another day Radhaashtami and another day Govardhan pooja and another day Holi and another day Gaur Purnima, another day Ram-Navmi, another day Nityanand Trayodashi, they just have festivals every day and is considered to be that day. That's the way many temples do because this month is so special to access and connect again to Krishna. So, let us take advantage and focus and increase our sadhana and increase our awareness and increase our humility and most of all increase our service attitude, our enthusiasm to please Krishna and in this spirit to chant the holy names from our hearts.
