This is the opening sequence of Giles Perring sound design and score for The Matchbox by Frank McGuinness, which premiered at The Liverpool Everyman in June 2012 and which won the prize for Best New Play in the 'Whats On Stage Awards' in 2014. Set on Valentia island, Eire, it's a story told by a woman who has lost her only child to a random unrelated act of gang violence. The play won universal acclaim when it opened as did the production by Lia Williams and the incendiary performance of leanne Best as sal, the sole character. Giles Perring made extensive use of field recordings and foley recorded near his studio on the Isle of Jura for the sound design, while his minimalist score featured a performance by Melanie Pappenheim. 'The Match Box' by Giles Perring

A track from 'Poets and Lighthouses' by Albert Kuvezin and Yat Kha. The album was recorded and produced by Giles Perring on the Isle of Jura. As well the signal talents of Albert Kuvezin and his distinctive Tuvan 'kargyraa' vocal technique, the album features performances from Sarah Homer, Simon Edwards, Stephen Warbeck, Melanie Pappenheim, Neil Cameron and Giles himself. The album hit No 1 in the WMCE world music chart in 2011.

A track from Karl Culley's 'Bundle of Nerves' recorded and produced at Sound of Jura and released in 2010. It was Karl Culley's debut album. Production and additional performances came from Giles Perring and Simon Edwards.

'Seven Days' by Something Secret

Opening sequence for The Lady from the Sea, by Ibsen, staged at the Arcola Theatre and then recorded for BBC Radio 3. Directed by Hannah Eidenow. The score and sound design were created by Melanie Pappenheim and Giles Perring. The recordings were produced in London and on Jura. The central character, Elida, is a strange fish [pun intended], is she massively troubled by her past, or is she lost because she's a selkie woman who needs to get back to the sea?
