Fortsetzung deep story nr. 176

Die Natur befriedet meinen Verstand und meine Seele. Ich kann durchatmen und loslassen. Die alles erdrückende Dunkelheit weicht langsam zurück und Wärme steigt in mir auf. Beflügelt durch diese Energie gleite ich durch den Wald. Nur langsam dringen wieder die ersten Gedanken zu mir durch. Dieses Mal verbreiten sie jedoch Zuversicht und sogar Freude. Der Antreiber dieser aufkeimenden Hoffnung ist der Viervierteltakt, der aus meinen Kopfhörern trommelt. Es sind die Rhythmen und Melodien, die mich wieder voranbringen. Mein alter Freund, die Musik, ist wieder zurück in meiner Gedankenwelt und das fühlt sich verdammt gut an. Erst jetzt fällt mir auf, wie sehr dieses elementare Stück meines Lebens in den Hintergrund gerückt ist. Die ganzen Ereignisse haben mich so vereinnahmt, dass ich die Musik nicht mehr fühlen konnte. Doch jetzt kämpft sie sich Beat für Beat wieder zurück und verströmt ihre ursprüngliche Magie.  

Wir freuen uns euch heute Annett Gapstream präsentieren zu dürfen. Die Energie, die sie auf den Tanzflächen dieser Welt entfesselt sucht ihresgleichen. It's by no means a coincidence that Tim Engelhardt released his debut album on Steve Bug's Poker Flat label at the tender age of 17 years old. For his musical education began a full decade earlier, when he made his first encounter with classical music theory on the piano at home. Influenced by the musical leanings of his parents, with Mike Oldfield's compositions being particularly formative, Tim soon discovered the tracks of Cologne producer Robert Babicz, shifting his focus to computers and synthesizers as the primary means of production. In the midst of a diverse new generation of young producers who'd source their inspiration from a whole range of genres, Tim kicked off his career as he released his first vinyl EP at the age of 14. It's the combination of a deep-running music knowledge and an intuitive playfulness that Tim has been cultivating since then, expressing itself in a great love for harmony and expanding melodic structures, paired with an organic flow and atmospheric density. As a result, Tim's impressive output of the past years found a home on labels like Poker Flat, Cityfox, Watergate, Fryhide, Innervisions, Vivrant and, most recently, on Oliver Koletzki's Stil vor Talent, where his second album 'Idiosynkrasia' was released in 2020. His work in the studio is only one side of the coin, however, as Tim has been touring the globe extensively, playing dance floors at festivals and clubs in Australia, Africa, India, Europe and the US. Here, Tim found a home away from home in New York, where the renowned Cityfox awarded him with a permanent residency at the super-club Avant Gardner. His continuous presence in the Big Apple culminated in the musical contribution to the New York Timesbestseller project 'The Outlaw Ocean' by journalist Ian Urbina. During the touring drought of the pandemic and thanks to his tireless research in the studio, Tim was able to make a name for himself as a sound engineer, upgrading the mixdowns of other artists. Additionally he released numerous sample packs and software templates in 2021, aiding young artists in their own production quests. Tim Engelhardt's vision for the future: Art with personality – art that holds a piece of its creator at its heart. His mission is to translate the sounds in his head into reality as convincingly as possible. Which explains why Tim's productions don't really sound like the standard DJ fodder, as he delivers a well-rounded musical vision to the club floor, that is just as awe inspiring on the hi-fi system of your living room.

LA-based artist @rezasafiniamusic delivers a fresh new DJ set for our Ibiza Sonica radio show. Reza is a UK-raised, LA-based, multi-instrumentalist producer and composer whose work spans multiple genres ranging from electronic music to classical compositions for major film scores. He has worked with acclaimed artists such as Dr Dre and Kylie Minogue and scores the HBO Max show Warrior, as well as releasing his own music as an electronic artist, Live performer DJ.

After an eventful year including standout live sets for Robot Heart at the Renegade Burn and the recent live performance stream for Mixmag, Reza has officially launched his Music and Texture Imprint with a stellar release, “Funkbible (Re-interpretation)”, in collaboration with German heavyweight producers, Super Flu, that has garnered support from the likes of Pete Tong, Eelke Kleijn and Black Coffee amongst others.

Fortsetzung deep story nr. 177

Meine Füße schlendern von links nach rechts und ich bewege mich langsam und entspannt zum Schneckno. Die niedrige BPM Zahl ist genau das Richtige für meinen Körper. Nach den hektischen und straff durchorganisierten Wochen bei ComRa, ist diese spontane Langsamkeit der Gipfel der Entschleunigung. Ich genieße den Zustand und lasse mich über das Gelände des Open Airs treiben. Ich wandele mit geschlossenen Augen durch die einzelnen Menschengruppen und wippe dabei immer wieder vom einem Bein auf das Andere. Lange Zeit geht dieser spielerische Tanz gut und ich schwebe grinsend über den Platz. Irgendwann stolpere ich jedoch und plumpse ungeschickt auf die Wiese. Ich versuche es so aussehen zu lassen, als wäre es Teil meiner Tanzeinlage und bewege meine Beine wie ein Marienkäfer am Boden liegend weiter. Die Menschen um mich herum sind sichtbar amüsiert über meine spontane Improvisation und einer legt sich tatsächlich dazu und ahmt meine Bewegungen nach. Bald hat sich eine kleine Kolonie von Marienkäfern gebildet, die die Musik eine Weile lang im Liegen feiern. Bald darauf bricht ein schallendes Gelächter aus und alle krümmen sich lachend am Boden.
 
Im Anschluss an diese spontane Performance werde ich auf einen Drink eingeladen und ich setze mich in einen Sitzkreis aus fremden Gesichtern. Doch nach einer kurzen Weile bleibt mein Blick immer wieder an einer Person hängen. Auch er scheint mich wiederzuerkennen und wir kommen ins Gespräch. Es stellt sich schnell heraus, dass er der Gast war, welcher auf der letzten ComRa Veranstaltung kollabierte und den ich gefunden habe. Mittlerweile geht es ihm wieder gut. Er wiederholt nochmal seine Story, dass er von den anderen Gästen und vor allem von ComRa Mitarbeitern dazu getrieben wurde immer weiter zu machen. Nach unserem Treffen wurde er von Lighter zur Bar begleitet und hat dort tatsächlich Wasser bekommen. Lighter sei auch noch nett und verständnisvoll gewesen, der musste jedoch irgendwann weg. Bevor er gegangen ist, hat er seine Kollegen angefunkt. Diese waren von Anfang an unfreundlich gewesen und hatten ihn dazu gedrängt bald nach Hause zugehen. Einer soll gesagt haben, dass er ohne Energie zum Tanzen keinen Wert mehr für die Veranstaltung habe. Wir unterhalten uns noch lange über den Abend, aber auch über andere Raves und Gemeinsamkeiten. Die Zeit verfliegt und die Djs wechseln sich ab. Es dämmert schon langsam und die Musik wurde ordentlich nach oben gedreht. Auch die BPM Zahl hat sich schrittweise immer weiter erhöht und fast alle Leute sind jetzt am tanzen. Auch mein Gesprächspartner und ich beschließen am bunten Treiben wieder aktiv teilzunehmen. An den Decks steht ein alter Bekannter der lokalen Szene. Er ist schon seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit dabei und weiß noch immer durch seine exzellenten Mixing Skills zu überzeugen. Wir lassen den Abend ausklingen bei bester Musik von Michael Dietze.

It's Tuesday night, we enter Burning Man a day late due to the rain. It's my first burn, and Sarah my girlfriend, it's her third. With little time to settle at our camp, we can't set up our newly purchased bikes. So we venture out in search of Robot Heart by foot. Arriving onto the playa for the first time at night is incredibly intense, the place is so vast. The lights, sounds and atmosphere is other worldly. It's distracting, let alone the fact we need to somehow find Robot Heart by foot in amongst all of this brilliant and mesmerising noise. We start walking in any direction, Sarah being an experienced burner knew full well the bus could be out deep in the desert far away. We ask people if they have seen it. Mixed answers get us nowhere. Scanning the horizon for anything that resembles a heart. So many things look similar. Somehow my eyesight pays off and the saving grace was the giant Robot held up high. Finally arriving and panic over we run straight into Phillipp from M.A.N.D.Y. With some time to spare before I play he asks us if we want to go for a quick cruise around to explore. With the obvious lack of our bikes he purposefully and very quickly introduces us to Benjamin and the crew from Robot Heart, who throw us both on the bus immediately. To our surprise the bus suddenly starts driving away. Everyone follows. An amazing experience as we watch thousands of bikes, lights and art cars slowly following the bus. It was like the bus was leaking - spewing out these bikes, lights and art cars all over the desert floor, leaving this incredible trail behind itself.
A good 30 minutes pass, the bus and gathered crowd is settled and in its final place for the night. I begin to play - my first gig at Burning Man, my first time on Robot Heart, all on my first night at BM in this crazy desert. All brilliantly overwhelming. Even after everything though, I am completely relaxed. It's a setting and experience I'll never forget. Playing and looking out over everything down below. You could take a picture of what you see in front of you and look at all of the different things for hours. But this was real life and in motion, always changing, so much to take in. By far one of the most enjoyable moments of my life. Which was topped only by mine and Sarah's fun wedding ceremony we had later that week in front of the Temple. The picture is our first kiss as newly weds!

Thank you Robot Heart and Burning Man! I definitely hope I can return to the Bus and the playa every year now!

For a long time now, I've collected some music that is quite different from my usual peak breaks sound. I've had a large collection of progressive and deep house I've wanted to play at sunrise and was given this opportunity by the fine folks at Decadent Oasis this year at Burning Man.

As the light shone over the "palm trees" and the sun started to shine on everyone's faces, a couple dozen skydivers with tails started to descend from the sky. A perfect, magical, playa moment.

I feel like every year I say my closing set at DISTRIKT is the highlight of my year of touring (because well, it always is) and this year was no different! Always the best energy, the biggest smiles, the happiest dance floor on earth...only this year, I got to play that set twice! Since there was an issue with the original recording, I had the opportunity to play that set in its entirety (plus an extra two hours at the end) by recording it live on my Garage Party Sessions show on Saturday March 28, 2020. I hope those of you who tuned in the past weekend were able to get way from our current global situation for a few hours and get back to happier days on the playa, I know I sure did, so thank you for being there with me again.

The first 3 hours of this set are the same songs in the same order as my set at Burning Man 2019. I decided to leave the last 2 hours on there as a little bonus, just to help you get through these long days stuck at home. I also recorded a 45 minute downtempo intro, which will be featured on my personal Soundcloud page. Hoj's 2012 post-sunrise set atop the Robot Heart at Burning Man has become one of his most popular. What many people don't know is Lee Burridge joined him after his set for an epic back-to-back session that went on into the afternoon. Hoj and Lee found the recording on an old hard drive, and wanted to share.
