Tokyo-based Far East Recording artist Shinichiro Yokota opens the ‘5 Years Anniversary Series 02’ with ‘I Know You Like’ a harkening back to the days of soulful, musical house courtesy of jazzy synth lines, warm chords and choppy bass running alongside a swinging drum groove and vocal hooks uttering the track’s title.

The Mole follows on the flip side with ‘A Simple Day’, turning in a typically raw and funk-infused workout via dusty drum sounds, looped guitar licks, warbling low-end tones and an underlying psychedelic feel that always makes The Mole’s tracks unique.

This project also sees a new design concept for the imprint from London’s David Surman’s painting installation project ‘Paintings For The Cat Dimension’ which ‘’explores the motif of the cat as emblematic of internet aesthetics, a place where all painting styles and modes now exist non-hierarchically as pure information.’’

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, London DJ, tastemaker and label collective https://soundcloud.com/slothboogie have curated their first album project, ‘Dancing With Friends’ set for release on 26th June.
SlothBoogie started back in 2010 as a blog run by a group of mates curating house and disco sounds which quickly grew into a highly engaged core community from all over the world. Dance music fans would flock to the site for daily discoveries of the latest edits and long forgotten underground tracks. At its peak the site would regularly hit 10,000 unique visitors a month. Now, some 10 years later, SlothBoogie are one of the most respected underground music collectives in London playing host to beloved parties, a weekly radio show and guest mix series, and running their hotly tipped record label. Dancing With Friends’ is a 17 track exploration of the distinctive and varied SlothBoogie soundscapes, and will be available as a 4 track vinyl sampler, with a mixed and unmixed digital compilation. Limited edition T-shirts will also be available via Everpress.
Covering a wide spectrum of styles, brooding cuts from Levan and Philippa showcase silky smooth deepness, while later, Ninja Tune affiliate Letherette and Kassian hint at the rawness of the UK House aesthetic leading on to Detroit infused textures from Ruff Stuff and the late night jazziness of Soul Wun. A reflection of SlothBoogie’s commitment to curating the best in underground dance music and giving a platform to new artists in the scene, ‘Dancing With Friends’ will open minds to a world of dance music you never knew existed and offer a warm embrace to those who’ve been supporting SlothBoogie throughout their ten year journey.

Tokyo-based producer Omar Santis returns for his 3rd Karakul EP following on from releases on Dionysian Mysteries and Envelope Audio. 'Thursday Night Funktion' is the 6th release on the imprint and really embodies the ethos of Karakul, soulful deep house workouts designed for the dance floor. The EP is dedicated to his Tokyo club night 'Funktion'; a cultural party that's held every Thursday at one of the world's top ten small clubs, Oath in Shibuya. Their events have caught the attention of Tokyo's local community and their international guests by its unique branding and "mature but wild" party atmosphere. The EP starts on a high with the groovy sample heavy disco/house jam 'Nira'. Vocal chops and guitar licks build and culminate until a massive string section releases a second rush of energy taking the track to even higher ground. The follow up 'Sakura Blossom' is the deepest cut of the release with washed out pads and bleeps cascading while a hypnotic bass keeps the track grooving. Iron Curtis adds his personal touch and ups the energy on his remix of 'Cameo Appearance', adding a breakbeat, ethereal melodies and vocal snippets floating atop a plucky bass line. Ending the release on a blissful note 'SpaceColorPalette' is a flurry of melodic synths and muffled percussion that swirl around over the top of a solid kick and bass groove.
