We're back like blossom in the spring after a short winter hiatus to present you the new EP by some old Japanese friends: CRYSTAL. Some of you might remember them from their two awesome releases on the late Institubes "Initiative" and "Magic". The group formed by Shinya Sato, Keita Onishi, Ryota Miyake & Sunao Maruyama is known for incorporating strangely poetic computer-generated visuals to their songs, their visual identity is as strong as their sonic identity. Early in their career, their tracks varied from naive early Shinjuku electro hommages to melancholic 3D tear drop synth ballads tied together by an obsession for laserdisc and video games aesthetics.

The "GET IT?!" EP taylor-made for Sound Pellegrino is a whole different story. While the Kraftwerk and YMO influences are still palpable, this time the music is willingly functional and club-ready, they are not exploring the past but rather inventing a new sound for Crystal, giving life to their aesthetics in a club context, still motivated by pure feelings of digital romanticism, the megalopolis and the ever-changing world of technology.

"Get It?!" featuring yours truly is part latin freestyle part soundtrack for Pop'n Music" (one of those popular 'Bemani' Japanese musical video games that inspired Guitar Hero). The lyrics tell a naive tale of love and friendship between what seems to be man and machine, or more probably 2 robots with different language processors. If a rollerskating rink version of Dance Dance Revolution existed, "Get It" would be the theme song. The absolutely mind-blowing video (directed by Shinya from Crystal in actual 3D - glasses are included in the vinyl version of the EP) has me flirting with Siri and eating various fruits and sushi in space, regurgitating them before they transform into the members of Crystal. And we're all skateboarding in space. Keep your eyes peeled for this one.

"Telephonic" could be interpreted as the "turbo" version of "Get It", slightly more digital, based on ringtone samples, rhythmically intricate, alternating between action-packed dance parts and more atmospheric/dreamy cosmic gliding parts.

"Construction" is Crystal's wonderfully weird attempt at making a techno tool, resulting in a groovy, metallic, industrial slab of "Musique Concrète" dripping with funk and unexpectedly uplifting. The spectre of Bangalter and Roule records is not far either.

"Crystal Forest" closes the EP with a peaceful sonic oasis of romance and well-being, like a spa level in a Megadrive action game, a clearing in the middle of the mechanical forest. The sounds are as precise as clear water drops, the synths as soothing as an essential oil massage on an iPad-shaped bed.

‘Py shows massive promise’ – Q Magazine

After releasing her astounding mixtape ‘Tripping On Wisdom’ which featured collaborations with the likes of George Fitzgerald, Throwing Snow, Breton and Raffertie last year, Py returns with the long-awaited follow up, ‘Polyethers’, produced by Maths Time Joy and released via Champion Records on 30th June.

A song about being so in tune with someone you love you ride the same emotional cycle together through romance and nostalgia via the testing times, ‘Polyethers’ marks the next natural musical step for Py. Showcasing her vocal depth and tone, ‘Polyethers’ is an epic love song, complete with soul-tinged harmonies; both emotionally grand and understated in all its bittersweet subtleties.

Fresh from his groundbreaking Jamie Lidell remix, from Berlin based DJ/ Producer Jimmy Edgar (Warp/!k7/Hotflush) on the flip, Py has effortlessly managed to retain her contemporary electronic sound and clear artistic vision, rooted deep through ‘Tripping On Wisdom’, whilst simultaneously showcasing her impressively versatile, pop-spattered voice.

Since completing a debut headline UK tour late last year as well as support for the likes of Fenech Soler on their the recent sold-out tour, Py has developed a full live show in the past few months.

With support as diverse as Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank, Mixmag, Dazed & Confused, FACT and The Guardian and with further releases to drop on Champion, as well as forthcoming live dates and collaborations with Supreme Cuts through the latter half of 2013, Py is one artist set to stick around for a long time yet. Make sure you also watch out for her Red Bull Introducing session set to drop in late May.

"In the Name of Jesus" is a Hawaiian slack key instrumental of a once popular Christian chorus.  It is played and recorded by me, Stan Aoki.  In the middle of the song, I "depart" from the original song format to improvise on my own.  I hope it will do justice to the original chorus and its original author.

Based in Paris, Sound Pellegrino is the label started by TEKI LATEX and ORGASMIC in 2009. The label focuses on club sounds evolving at the fringe of House, Techno, Bass and un-named half time dance-music hybrids all tied together by a strong hip hop background. Curated by renowned DJs and taste makers Orgasmic and Teki Latex (from pioneer electronic hip hop outfit TTC – Teki also happens to be one of the founders of Institubes), Sound Pellegrino has quickly established itself as one of the labels to reckon with, releasing singles by Zombie Disco Squad, Renaissance Man, Todd Edwards & Surkin, L-Vis 1990, Para One, G.Vump, Bok Bok & Tom Trago, Panteros666, Teeth, Maelstrom (amongst others) and generating interest by A-List DJs from all ends of the dance music spectrum such as Modeselektor, Hudson Mohawke, Boys Noize, Annie Mac, Diplo, A-Trak, Sinden, Pete Tong, Claude Vonstroke, Ivan Smagghe, Laurent Garnier, Chloé, Justin Martin, Agoria, Joakim to name a few.

Their vision is carried and complimented by the direction of label manager EMILE SHAHIDI (Institubes' deputy manager) who handles development of the label’s activities and brands as well as executive production on all releases. Sound Pellegrino’s CROSSOVER SERIES is a collection of EPs where 2 artists from different countries, backgrounds, generations and/or scenes are brought together by Sound Pellegrino to collaborate on some tracks. So far Bambounou was paired with Joakim, Bok Bok with Tom Trago, and Todd Edwards with Surkin.
