"Hemia Dei (This is the Day)" by Carmel Zein

The progressive revelation of the Divine Manifestations of God is a perennial theme as ancient as religion itself. It may predate the Vedic manuscripts (perhaps the oldest known sacred texts) that emerged out of the Indus Valley as far back as 1700 BC. But the Great Theme is given an eloquent exposition in the sacred writings of the Baha'i Faith which Bahá'u'lláh set down in the mid-19th century CE. The basic idea has to do with the Unity implicit within the multiplicity of the world's religions - that all religions ultimately arise from a single source - one light from many lamps. French philosopher and professor of Islamic studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and University of Tehran, Henry Corbin, devoted his life to the struggle to free the religious imagination from fundamentalism of every kind. One idea which I came across in his work years ago changed my entire way of thinking about religion forever. He described the religious impulse in mankind as a single divine elixir produced by God, yet received by humanity through a great diversity of vessels. The multiplicity of religious forms and customs, the great variety of cultural contexts and languages, are but mirrors reflecting to varying degrees a single Supreme Light which emanates from One God.

I'm an old timer, but I am rich in daughters who have prevented me from becoming entirely petrified. I am drawn to sad songs and warm harmonies, but this cloud has some very creative content, and the field is constantly expanding.  Somewhere recently I read, "The music of the universe is the background of the small picture which we call music.  Our sense of music, our attraction to music, shows that there is music in the depth of our being.  Music is behind the workings of the entire universe" [or multiverse, or whatever they come up with to call it next.....]  This is why I continue to be fascinated by Sound Possibilities. We play our music, but at the same time we are the music being played by the universe....  Play on!
