I'm in early pre-production on an exciting Sci-Fi film and am just starting to experiment with some ideas and generally play with some sounds. Here is the result of my first ten minutes having a play. I always love these mess around sessions, but it's very easy to get lost haha.

Monday, 25th June, 2012. 

A thunder storm was predicted, so I set up my Telinga SSM and Olympus LS-100 recorder just inside a screened door. I set the recording level low, but even so the nearest lightning strikes (about 100 feet away) completely overwhelmed the system.

The recording begins while the storm is still about ten minutes away....

There are several phases - first, there is distant thunder as the wind begins to strengthen. Then the thunder gets nearer and the rain begins. Next, the storm literally moves overhead, with several strikes within a few hundred feet of the house.

This is followed by hail, and then more wind and rain, as the storm slowly recedes to the east.

Recorded on Horsey Beach, North Norfolk coast on 25th November during the Wildeye wildlife sound recording course. Setup was 2 AKGSE300B, one with CK91 cardioid and one with CK94 Fig8 recorded MS in a SD552. Decoded and mixed in Reaper.

Wind through trees in a local wood with gusts at over 50MPH.Rode NT55 Matched Pair into Tascam DR-680. This is a raw sound only cut in length from a 10 minute take and fade in and out added. Otherwise untouched.
