Come With Me

A dull and blustery day high in the wild uplands of North Yorkshire is the setting for this recording.  We are at Selside on the Settle-Carlisle railway for 60009 Union of South Africa with a 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' trip to Carlisle.  Heavy rain is forecast and the sky looks threatening against the distant peak of Pen-y-ghent, almost a silhouette in the distance.  As the wind buffets the landscape we hear 60009 whistle at Horton-in Ribblesdale, climbing along this section of the line known as the 'long drag'.  The line climbs for around 15 miles at 1/100 all the way from Settle Junction.  60009 climbs towards us amid the sounds of this wild setting and passes in fine style, working hard all the way.

An occasional listen to main line steam locomotives at work in the UK.  Most of the recordings contain quiet passages of sound and the use of any kind of headphones will probably enhance your listening.  Be aware though that some tracks have do have some very loud passages and you should protect your hearing at all times.
