Mark Starr’s ‘Mortem EP’ is finally here! After remixing Jason Burns and Tommy Kid, the Florida producer returns to Sounds of Sumo with a release of his own. The EP includes four original tracks from the dirtybird crew member and a quartet of stunning remixes from Druid Cloak, Panda, Sepehr and the Pete Graham & Marc Spence. Early support from Claude vonStroke, Justin Martin, T.Williams, Astronomar, Kry Wolf and Roska as well as airplay on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Rinse FM.

The title track blends soulful chords and vocals with a dark, mutated bassline - all the ingredients to make it a certified club banger. Sui Generis is certainly an artist you should be paying attention to. Since emerging on the scene last year the secretive producer has guested on Radio 1, collaborated with UK chart topper Route 94 and had two tracks included on Pete Tong and Skream’s acclaimed Defected Miami mix compilation. With lots more in the pipeline and support from heavy hitters like Eats Everything and Jackmaster, it appears the mystery man is heading for big things. His Sounds of Sumo EP blends together the warm spirit of Chicago house and the brooding industrial darkness of Detroit techno. The Benny Blanco EP consists of two bass-heavy bangers in the form of the title track and tribal-flavoured B-side ‘Tech Leopard’. The release comes with a hefty remix package containing reworkings courtesy of Stripes Records outfit Spoils, UKG rising star Conducta and crew member of the late Trouble & Bass records Doctor Jeep. Demuja may be a familiar name to house and techno lovers. The Austrian DJ and producer has had previous outings on acclaimed labels such as Nervous Records and Food Music and has forthcoming releases in the works with 124 Records and Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse. He made his Sounds of Sumo debut earlier this year with ‘High’ a collaborative effort with Portuguese duo Bangkok Snobiety and returns with a solo EP of four original tracks that explore the hidden depths of house and techno. Also on the package, Sounds of Sumo favourite Majora transforms title track ‘Mint’ into a disturbed bassline wobbler in his trademark style. The RBMA graduate’s latest four track offering sees him switch to a harder more US-influenced style and features two solo tracks and a pair of collaborations with friend Macaroneman. On the remix package Birmingham don Marc Spence transforms ‘About to Go’ into a heavy bass stomper while former R1 Ryder Karnak gives ‘Trembles’ a funkitek makeover. Following his breakthrough ‘Black EP’ on Sounds of Sumo at the end 2015, Russian DJ/producer RNBWS has kept the momentum up with a release on Skeleton Recordings and a string of remixes earning heavy rotation from the likes of Paleman, Kry Wolf and more. He returns to Sounds of Sumo in 2016 with follow-up ‘Do Right’ a 4-track hybrid blend of electronica, techno and bass. On remix duties SoS favourite and UK funky man of the moment Murder He Wrote gives the title track a thumping UK bass rework while rising Sheffield trio Denham Audio give ‘Breakage’ the amen treatment with their 90s jungle-influenced remix.

Two years since his smash ‘Mortem EP’ on Sounds of Sumo back in 2014, we had to get Florida DJ/producer Mark Starr back on the label for a follow up. The dirtybird player packs just as much punch with his latest effort - the ‘Ten Thirty One EP’ which features four tracks purpose built for the club by perfectly blending together bass, breaks and house (including a stunning collaboration with fellow dirtybird and This Ain't Bristol producer Lux Groove). Remixing title track ‘1031’ is friend of the label and Brum bass veteran Marc Spence who reworked ‘Mortem’ with Pete Graham last time round - for those who remember that one, this one’s just as heavy!
