UFe is a good friend of ours, back from the early days of the shop, and even before that 🙂

During these 9 years since we opened Misbits, we had the pleasure of listening to him spin records at our store quite a few times.

Now he is back for the third "after nine years..." anniversary podcast! 
We are excited to hear him play some records once again in our home ❤

Tras una gira de casi tres años llevando las canciones de "Embruxo" por hasta tres continentes, Baiuca cierra la etapa de uno de los discos más icónicos de la historia de la música fusión ibérica con una de las joyas que sólo se pudieron escuchar en la gira: su reversión del clásico "Verde Gaio" que popularizaron hace unas décadas Leilía, una de las formaciones más importantes de la música tradicional gallega, que justo este año 2023 ponen fin a una carrera de varias décadas.

La versión de Baiuca se rebautiza como "Vai Tu" utilizando las voces originales de las cantareiras de Leilía y llevando a un territorio en el que el indie dance, el acid house, el downtempo y esa contracción líquida denominada folktrónica cobran una nueva dimensión de baile, como ya se demostró en la gira de Baiuca y en el imaginario colectivo de la música tradicional peninsular. Ahora, es de todos y todas.

Artist´s collective Shika Shika (@shikashikacollective) presents “Especias”, the debut EP by renowned Amsterdam producer Daniel Zuur´s (@danielzuur) new worldly moniker Kraut.
“Especias” - Spanish for spices - serves-up four choice cuts of flavour packed, global electronica, mixing together Daniel´s diverse influences to offer a whole new platter of sound, rhythm and melody. “Especias” infuses house production esthetics with Latin American folk melodies and organic rhythms, mixing natural flavours with a modern touch and just the right amount of kick for the dance floor.
The release opens with “Selva”, a mouth-wateringly familiar melody transporting us to the Andes before the soothing, aromatic melodies the aptly titled “Marimba” take our taste buds in a different direction. “Hermano” is fusion at its best, mixing Eastern European hammer dulcimers with tribal rhythms and ethereal flutes to form an appetizing track for DJs from Cali to California. A drummer by training, Kraut has an exceptional ear for rhythm, marrying organic, free-range, live percussion with crisp melodies like on closing track “El Mariachi”: a refreshing cumbia beat sprinkled with fiery claps and glazed with glistening arpeggios.
Daniel Zuur has been a household name on the German and Dutch electronic music scene since 2009 having played iconic clubs and festivals such as Kater Holzig (Berlin), Katerblau (Berlin) Sisyphos (Berlin), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Perron (Rotterdam) and Tivoli (Utrecht) or internationally at locations like Baum (Bogota, Colombia). He has released music on labels like Katermukke, Manual Music, Cinematique and on his own label, Zauer Records and “Especias” is his first official release as Kraut - which means 'spices' in Dutch.
“Especias” is the third release from the international, organic music collective Shika Shika, a record label without owners for music without borders and is available on Bandcamp as well as the usual digital music channels.

El EP contiene remixes de cuatro de los principales productores de la electrónica actual latinoamericana, El Buga ft. Zambo, Andrés Digital, Pigmalião, y Mr. Toé, cada uno imprimiendo su propia magia y sonoridad al tema original.

Recorded over 4 years in London and Venezuela, Cuban rumba, Venezuelan tambor and tonada, Ghanaian highlife, Ethiopian blues and calypso have been soaked and infused with psychedelia and spiritual jazz to come up with what Gilles Peterson described as “a really great record”. The DJ and tastemaker included the band in his recent ‘Hot For 2013 Show’ on BBC 6music, premiering the track Cumbacutiri.

A diverse host of heavyweight musicians from both sides of the Atlantic are led by London born Jack Yglesias, producer, multi-instrumentalist and a veteran of The Heliocentrics, and his wife Luzmira Zerpa, traditional Venezuelan musician, poet and singer with a magical voice acclaimed by Manu Chao.

Recorded while living in an abandoned vicarage in East London, the record contains three different generations of Luzmira’s family as well as a cast of musicians from the wider Family Atlantic family.

One of the guests on the album, legendary Ethiopian-jazz maestro Mulatu Astatke, adds a classic touch on piano to ‘Escape To The Palenque’, soloing in his unmistakable flowing Ethiopian 6/8 style. Also featured on the record are Senegalese Nuru Kane and Afro-Cuban group Yoruba Andabo. Much of the record was recorded by the Heliocentrics’ Malcolm Catto at their East London studio.

In 2008, Luzmira traveled to the Sahara Desert in the south of Algeria to participate in the Fi-sahara Festival. While there she performed with Manu Chao who introduced her to the audience as the most beautiful voice to arrive to the desert.
