Marcos Valle - Mentira

Valle is a Brazilian singer, instrumentalist, songwriter and record producer of the highest order. His roots lie in Bossa Nova and he was one of the youngest talents in the scene, extensively touring the USA and residing there for many years. Valle’s music crosses touches many styles including samba, rock, soul, jazz, boogie and disco.

Signed by Odeon in 1963, he recorded ten studio albums for them between 1964 and 1974. He also recorded for Verve, Warner and Som Livre among others.

Mentira is a re-record of his own song ‘Mentira Carioca’ - released four years earlier by Odeon - and appears on his 1973 LP ‘Previsão Do Tempo’ on Odeon.

Toni Tornado - Me Libertei

This is the second track that we have re-issued by the one and only Toni Tornado, master of Brazilian Funk.

His career began as ‘Tony Checker’, lip syncing to rock 'n' roll hits and touring extensively outside of Brazil. Whilst in New York he met Tim Maia and became involved in the ‘Black Rio’ movement. Toni also worked with Ed Lincoln and Antonio Adolfo amongst many others. He had a successful acting career and starred in many soap opera’s.

It appears alongside ‘O Jornaleiro’ on his sought after BR-3 LP from 1971 on Odeon. ‘Me Libertei’ has never been released on a 7”.

We have released several of Brazilian jazz legend Dom Salvador’s records on Mr Bongo. He worked with artists including as Elis Regina, Jorge Ben and Edu Lobo and led Salvador Trio, as well as releasing under his own name. Dom lives in New York and plays a Hotel piano bar daily.

‘Barumba’ is an uptempo funk-jazz monster with heavy drums and piano right from the off. Soaring horns add to the drama.

Originally released on his self titled LP on CBS Brazil in 1974.


Morre o burro, Fica o Homem is the third Osmar Milito track to feature in our Brazil 45’s series. A classic samba-rock track; funk drums fills and punchy horns underpin the MPB vocals, building in tempo slightly over the track. The song was originally written by Jorge Ben.

Taken from his expensive and hard to find ‘Nem Paletó, Nem Gravata’ LP released on ATCO Brazil in 1973.

‘Que Vida É Essa’ is a certified samba-rock classic from 1973, taken from one of Wal’s sought after 7”’s. Uptempo for the dancers, with percussive grooves, chic and even some wave sounds for extra sunshine vibe.

‘Atôa Atôa’ is a samba-jazz-fusion classic by Ronald ‘Ronie’ Mesquita,
featuring Burnier & Cartier. Taken from the sought after ‘Ronie & Central Do Brasil’ LP on Tapecar. Previously unreleased on 7”.

‘Sinal Vermelho’ – midtempo psyche-funk workout tough on the drums. Brilliant vocal from Marilene. Taken from 1973 compacto 7” released on Copacabana. 

‘Verão Vermelho’ is taken from Nonato Buzar’s 1970 LP ‘Temas De Novelas’, a collection of songs he wrote for Brazilian soap operas.
