‘Do You Realize’ is the question which Mr. Confuse asks on this album and it comes as a massive plea for the power of funk. ‘Do You Realize’ is about being true to the groove, carries strong lyrical statements while touching political matters as well as social issues in its clever and heartfelt lyrics but is first and foremost, of course, about being real.

On ‘Do You Realize’ Mr. Confuse picks up on the distinctive, organic and powerful sound he introduced on ‘Feel The Fire’ and takes it a step further. ‘Do You Realize’ tells a story from the beginning to the end: ‘We Gonna Bring The Funk To You’ with featured singer and main vocalist Dan Salem allows no second thoughts as a perfect opener and leads into ‘Catch Me’, the first single release. In a total of 13 tracks and with full-on party tunes like ‘Never Let The Rhythm Go’ and ‘Let’s Get The Feeling’ the album keeps a steady pace. The second single releases ‘Too Hot’ and the conscious and soulful ‘Why Can’t You See Me’ carries ‘Do You Realize’ to the perfect ending with the moving soul ballad ‘Cool Smooth Waters’ introducing the mighty soul voice of Mrs Elaine Thomas. 

It would not be a true Mr. Confuse album if it would not pay tribute to a musical pioneer. With his versions of ‘Boogie Down (Bronx)’ (with the voice of well know German Reggae artist Benjie) and ‘Man Made’ (featuring Dan Salem) Mr. Confuse pays tribute to Man Parrish as one of the innovators who translated Funk and Boogie into the HipHop-Era of early Electro and Freestyle. ‘Do You Realize’ comes as an apt title then.

Accompanying the album there will be a colourful bunch of remixes released in various formats. Well known British producers like Lack Of Afro (Freestyle Records), Newcastle's own Smoove (Jalapeno Records), up and coming producer Daytoner (Wass Records), among the excellent bossa breaks remix production of Dr Rubberfunk (Jalapeno Records) and an exciting remix on the jazzy tip by Tom Eno (Jack To Phono Records) are representing the UK remixer scene. The album also features contributions by Hungary's finest producer team The Uptown Felaz (Shiftin' Gears Records), Poland's Przaśnik (Funky Mamas And Papas Recordings) and Germany's block-rocking Ghetto Funk producers Funkanomics (Big M Productions) together with well known German Electro Funk expert Funkmaster Ozone (Da Source Records) and fresh new faces like Salem & Bastino - not to forget Afternoons In Stereo (Timewarp Music) from Toronto/Canada and a rare appearance of Dublex Inc (INFRACom!).

With ‘Do You Realize” Mr. Confuse is not only expanding his trademark sound but the album also introduces him as a musical director with an open ear for the bigger picture. With up to 23 international musicians he created incredible sounding big arrangements you would rather expect from the good times of big studios from the 60s and 70s. Here is a producer who not only reveals a deep understanding of the rhythms ranging from Afro to Soul and from classic R&B to HipHop, but who also has a vision of translating history into the future. ‘Do You Realize’? Indeed we do!

"We’ve all been big fans of James Brown since we’ve been involved in music and have played ‘In The Middle’ regularly on our live tours. It felt like a natural fit for the Orlando project, particularly as we have added an Afro swing to the track. We first played the track with Orlando at a London gig last year and he got into it in the studio straight away – his sax solo here was the very first take. James Brown and his band loved Orlando when they saw him play in Ibadan back in the ‘60s and the two of them met up and talked at J.B.’s hotel. So, for lots of reasons, this felt like a natural one to include.”

The name "DZgot" is inspired by the scientific word "dizygotic" making reference to non-identical or fraternal twins.
DZgot is a music producing/Dj duo composed by Cedric Roy and David Chatelain, inspired by the Afro House movement and the golden years of haitian kompa music.
In 2013, they came together to form a dj duo concept focusing on projects where the international dance scene would meet the haitian culture halfway on the dancefloor, opening a new world of possibilities where ethnic sounds and EDM tendencies would unite.
Three years later, DZgot is proud to present it's first original music composition: La Vibe Tropicale.

Smoove is the archetypal B Boy made good. Despite his huge international success with Smoove & Turrell and his ability to craft jazz, soul, latin, hip hop and funk into world beating dancefloor killers – he can still be found every weekend he’s not playing live jumping on a plane or a train to go and DJ in Germany , Russia , Italy, Ibiza or just down to Manchester,  Bristol or London wherever his diary tells him he has to go..

Wherever it is, his incredible skills behind the decks mean that he gets asked back and the breadth of the music seamlessly joined by his turntablist skills jumps from disco to funk, jazz to soul, hip hop to house and back again. 

The endless flights, trains and hotel rooms are dead time to some DJ’s but Smoove is always creating new tunes for his set on the fly and working his different influences into the remixes and productions he is currently on. There were at least 40 remixes that could have been  included on this album but in the end he chose the ones that worked best together and made the album flow like one of his legendary DJ sets.

The album contains a number of exclusives including the Smoove remix of the new Third Degree track and a killer smoove remix of Afrka Bambataa, Charlie Funk and King Kamonzi. The Smoove remix of Da Wiesel has only ever been available on vinyl before and his amazing remix of Electric Empire remains unreleased (unbelievably) in many European territories.

Smoove started his recording career for the legendary Acid Jazz label releasing two albums as a solo artist before signing to Jalapeno Records with partner John Turrell to release two hugely successful Smoove & Turrell albums. Their last album was playlisted extensively at Radio 2 and tracks from the album have been used in more than ten film and TV syncs – making Smoove & Turrell  the new darlings of the LA film community.

Smoove is touring with the Smoove & Turrell live band, recording the next S&T album, DJ’ing every weekend and he also just became a dad.   Where does he find the time ?

Soundway Records present Kenya Special: Selected East African Recordings from the 1970s & ‘80s - a treasure-trove of rare and unusual recordings from East Africa. Spread out over two CDs and one triple LP, Kenya Special is accompanied by detailed liner notes, original artwork and photographs.It follows on from Soundway’s much acclaimed African ‘Special’ series that to date has focused on the highlife and afrobeat output from 1970s Nigeria and Ghana.

Kenya Special is a collection of 32 recordings (most of which were only ever released on small-run 45rpm 7" singles) that stand out as being different or unique as well as some classic genre standards. From Kikuyu language ‘liquid soul’, Luo benga and Swahili afrobeat to genre-bending Congolese and Tanzanian tracks recorded in Nairobi, Kenya Special sees Soundway yet again taking the less trodden path. Many of the tracks featured here are peppered with innovation and experimentation highlighting how diverse the music scene in Kenya was at the time. 

In 1970s Kenya the two threads of rumba and benga loosely dominated the music scene. Benga quickly became Kenya’s unique contribution to afro-pop; spreading like wildfire through the interior countryside with it’s fast, 4/4 machine-gun beat and intricate electric guitar layers. The Congolese take on Afro-Cuban rumba was introduced by touring bands many of whom settled in East Africa - influencing bands from Kenya and Tanzania to come up with their own take on this popular style. Alongside these styles were small ensembles and hotel-sponsored bands, playing a blend of music that often included rock ‘n’ roll riffs, elements of ‘afro’ music (influenced by West African musicians like Fela Kuti), and multiple other combinations from South African and Zambian guitar styles to disco, funk and Swahili coastal rhythms like chakacha.

Painstakingly compiled, assembled and researched over two years by a team of five people from five countries (Kenya included), Kenya Special is a collection that looks beyond the mainstream and brings new life and recognition to some little known gems and forgotten classics of Kenya’s past.

MUSIC FROM PLANET EARTH: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE

I love all different genres of music and I like to try to play connect the dots in musical interludes and influences as queer child of the great and wide African Diaspora.


Biography
My love affair with music began when I was just a kid. Living with a father who was a musician, he fostered an interest in a wide spectrum of musical genres from the time we could crawl.
    When I was a teenager, I got into making mix tapes for friends and myself. Music inspired me and was my rock when I came out as a queer teen. One Friday night I had the opportunity to play some music at my queer youth group's coffeehouse. It ignited something in me and I decided this was something I 've got to do.
    For a couple of years due to the lack of opportunities I was relegated to making mix tapes and the coffee house nights. I moved to Toronto in the mid 1990's and stumbled into a wonderful place called CKLN 88.1 fm. The station offered training workshops in being a technician and on-air programming. I was soon volunteering there as a tech and doing the occasional on-air fill in. To my good fortune a slot opened on air and soon I was programming a weekly show with Karen Augustine called B.A.S.S (blak Afrikan sistas of soul).
    
    From spinning on air I was asked if I would play a few gigs. I accepted it with joy and have been creating vibes since then. After a year and half on B.A.S.S, I moved onto my own show on CKLN - RedLight Special (Tuesday's 12:30 A.M. -2:30AM) and then now Afrotransit(Thursday’s 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M) I continued with Aftrotransit on radioregent when CKLN folded.  I am no longer on Radio Regent  but will have a Podcast coming soon!
