The Cactus Channel’s new single “Leech” takes the orchestrated soul futurism that has become their signature sound and adds silvery vocal dimensions, as the band’s own Lewis Coleman steps up to the mic. The song’s emotionally potent lyrics evoke the wrestling that arises internally with the feelings that linger after a breakup. As Lewis elucidates, “Leech” is about “those feelings that don’t go away, and pop up at unexpected times. When something shifts inside, but even your best friends wouldn’t know; your mood is instantly altered, even if you can walk back into the room and nobody notices it externally.” The band has recently shared the video for their first single “Storefront” and announced a huge national tour and an October residency at Melbourne’s The Night Cat.

Originally crafted as an anonymous concept project, Shah Marg was later revealed to be the work of Monster Rally (Ted Feighan) who describes the music as "blown out funk", taking inspiration from early 70s rock, psychedelia, and the sounds of India and the Middle East. Originally released in 2012, the original songs and a new digital-only track, have been remastered. The 7" version, featuring the first 4 tracks of the EP, is limited to 300 individually numbered copies and comes in a stamped, die-cut jacket.

Shah Marg - There'll Always Be Stars in the Sky

Born out of hazy nocturnal walks around London during the Winter of 2015, L’Eclair initially took form as a duo consisting of Sébastien Bui and Stefan Lilov, who conceived of the band for months before coming back to their homeplace of Geneva, Switzerland where their muse was eagerly awaiting them. The groove was their aim but they needed a bigger band to accomplish it. Long times friends and brother, Elie Ghersinu and Yavor Lilov joined the band, respectively on bass and drums, and not so long after, Quentin Pilet on percussion and Alain Sandri on keyboards & cowbell rounded out the current lineup.

L’Eclair was prepared to make people dance. After playing lots of wild shows with the likes of White Fence, The Mauskovic Dance Band, Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek, the band released their first LP in 2016. “Cruise Control” was recorded in one day and the album received support from radio and venues around Switzerland that led to just what L’Eclair wanted… more and more chances to work it out on stage. “Cruise Control”’s Swiss Groove™ and crunchy, high-tempo jams caught the ear of producer and renowned live engineer Jasper Geluk (Allah Las, Jacco Gardner, Eerie Wanda) who invited them to record their next record at his studio.

After a year working on new songs and perfecting their Swiss Groove™ on any stage they could, L’Eclair took their guitars and shitty old synths to Geluk’s Tone Boutique studio in Haarlem, Netherlands. There the young groovers were confronted with the beautiful vintages machines and keyboards that would set the spirit high for the rest of the sessions that birthed the fine far-out funkiness that is 2018's “Polymood” on Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records.

“Polymood” is a further expansion on L’Eclair’s quest to channel and honor their Afro-Disco, Kosmische, and early House 70s influences. And what we end up with is a collection of timeless Swiss Groove™ music—inspired by William Onyeabor, French band AIR, Piero Picioni, Sly Stone and CAN’s ‘Future Days’—bringing euphoric dance to the human machine while it perseveres in its never-ending search for the soul.

Nice Swan Records are excited to announce they are joining forces with the team from RIP Records in launching the new monthly Nice Swan Introduces... series. The two labels have discovered and released debut tracks from some of the finest talent over the past few years including Sports Team, Pip Blom, FUR, Phobophobes, Peluché, Dark Bells (Haai)
& Black Manila (Mellah), Hotel Lux and many more. The series will introduce a new and exciting talent on a monthly basis – spanning genres – and present a stepping stone for acts yet to have any team around them.

The first in the new series comes from South London’s Jelly Cleaver, the latest musical sensation to emerge from the exciting Jazz scene of the capital. Her new track ‘Feeling Fine’ features rapper Shunaji, a graduate of Gilles Peterson’s
Future Bubblers, and Maddy Coombs, a rising saxophonist on the London Jazz Scene. It’s due for release April 28th via Nice Swan Introduces Series.

The self-taught multi-instrumentalist has been playing guitar ever since she was old enough to pick one up and with a wide range of musical influences including classical, soul, “world”, folk and experimental. Jelly’s sound has naturally headed into the musical freedom of jazz with hip-hop elements born from previous projects that included a punk band and an African drumming choir.

This is the second single from Jelly’s innovative new project Reimagined, following on from They Don’t Know released in
November 2019. For this mixtape she has produced tracks based off sampling her last critically acclaimed album The Dream Jazz Manifesto (played on BBC 1xtra, Rinse FM, Worldwide FM and others). Feeling Fine samples her tune
Angela, reimagining it as a chilled-out, old-school hip-hop track. Jelly, who recently won the Steve Reid InNOVAtion Award, has previously been called “the next artist to make an impact on the London Jazz Scene” by Supreme Standards
and been compared to Moses Boyd, Esperanza Spalding and Hiatus Kayote, but this mixtape sees a radical departure from her jazz/DIY roots and her first strong statement as a producer and beatmaker. The project has been funded by Help Musicians Do It Differently Fund, and the full mixtape is due for release in May 2020.

‘Feeling Fine’ is a woozy track about the good times, dreaming about summer days and being your best self.

Her two collaborators definitely share in this vibe. Having met as part of the house band for a jam session at Brainchild Festival several years back, Jelly and Vanessa Saul (artist name Shunaji) became good mates and frequent collaborators, with Jelly supporting Shunaji for her Blue Melon EP release and featuring on a track from her upcoming EP. Jelly knew Maddy Coombs though Tomorrow’s Warriors, the jazz education organisation credited by many for creating the current London jazz scene, with alumni including Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, Shabaka Hutchings, Nerija and Nubya Garcia.
