I attached two JRF contact microphones inside the hollow of this wonderful old Oak tree to see if I could pick up any bug sounds. I was amazed to hear that it was completely full of Death Watch Beetle. They knock their heads on the tree to attract a mate.

This recording won the Coveted Wildlife Sound Recording Society's “Silver Fox” Trophy, the Non-Avian award and a first in class 2: Species in the 2012 WSRS competition. It also won first prize in the 'sounds of nature' category in the IWT/IARC/CIMES 2013 competition awarded by the International Federation of Sound Hunters.

'Songs from the Bardo' begins with a bell ringing out once, twice, three times, as a ritualistic chant emerges from the dense silence. The collaborative composition by avant-garde icon Laurie Anderson, Tibetan multi-instrumentalist Tenzin Choegyal, and composer and activist Jesse Paris Smith is a guided journey through the visionary text of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, unfolding in an 80-minute ebb and flow of sound and words. 'Songs from the Bardo' is a transporting experience, meant to draw the listener into the present moment and provide a framework for inner exploration. Anderson, Choegyal, and Smith fuse modern compositional techniques with the mystique of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy to make these visionary traditions more accessible to a new generation of listeners and to reveal the ancient wisdoms contained within.

S&M Conversations: Breath Practice, Sleep Cycles, & Creativity - Live Q&A

Kronos Quartet performs "Marejada," the most recent addition to Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. Composed by Puerto Rican–born, Brooklyn-based composer Angélica Negrón in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the piece was specifically created to be played online, from separate locations via a video conferencing platform. Kronos describes “Marejada” as “a piece composed in this moment, and decidedly about and for this moment. We believe it is one of many creative and musical ways forward, out of our current isolation, and back into community.”
