Just last night the lights burned out in the town where you were born

And then I started thinking quite reasonably
With ashes flying right on over me

They're still moving on
But somehow I kept all that I have done — all I did wrong
And all the nights I dreamt the plane was falling
All that fire and wind that would slowly come calling
I swore those dreams would drown in all of the light and sound

But someone was singing right next to me
With wooden floors burning right below our feet

And we kept on drinking — tables over me
With ashes flying all above the street

The conductor don't burn inside the fires he leads.
