Al-Qur'an - Surah Baqarah (The Cow - Chapter 2): Verses 284-286
Recited by: Saad al Ghamdi 
Translation: "To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent.
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."

Allāhumma salli `alā Sayyidinā Muhammad (Urdu Naat) | Hāfiz Zahid Khalifa

Tazkiyatun nafs adalah upaya diri untuk memperbaiki jiwa dan membersihkannya dengan ilmu yang bermanfaat dan amal shalih, serta melaksanakan perintah Allah Azza wa Jalla dan menjauhi larangan-Nya.

Rasulullah shalallahu 'alaihi wasallam pernah menjelaskan makna tazkiyatun nafs dan keutamaannya. Beliau shalallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda,

ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ فَعَلَهُنَّ فَقَدْ ذَاقَ طَعْمَ الْإِيْمَانِ: مَنْ عَبَدَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَحْدَهُ بِأَنَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ، أَعْطَى زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ طِيْبَةً بِهَا نَفْسُهُ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ، وَلَمْ يُعْطِ الْهرمَةَ وَلاَ الدرنَةَ وَلاَ الْمَرِيضَةَ، وَلَكِنْ مِنْ أَوْسَطِ أَمْوَالِكُمْ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَسْأَلْكُمْ خَيْرَهَا وَلَمْ يَأْمُرْكُمْ بِشَرِّهَا ،َوزَكَّى نَفْسَهُ. فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: وَمَا تَزْكِيَةُ النَّفْسِ؟ فَقَالَ: أَنْ يَعْلَمَ أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَعَهُ حَيْثُ كَانَ

“Tiga perkara yang apabila seseorang melakukannya, dia akan merasakan manisnya iman: (1) Seseorang beribadah kepada Allah Ta'ala saja, tidak ada sesembahan yang haq selain Dia, (2) Seseorang mengeluarkan zakat malnya setiap tahun, tidak mengeluarkan yang tua, yang jelek, atau yang sakit. Namun, dibayarkan dari harta kalian yang tidak terlalu mahal, karena Allah Ta'ala tidak meminta yang terbaik kepada kalian, juga tidak memerintah yang terjelek. (3) Seseorang membersihkan jiwanya.” Ada yang bertanya, “Apakah yang dimaksud membersihkan jiwanya?” Rasululllah shalallahu 'alaihi wasallam menjawab, “Dia meyakini bahwa Allah Ta'ala bersamanya (mengawasi dan mengetahui) di mana pun ia berada.”
