John Carter, a senior editor with the political economy desk at the South China Morning Post and a founding editor of Market News International, passed away peacefully in the United States on Friday after a short illness. He was 66. 
John joined the SCMP on the newly created political economy desk in the summer of 2018 and was initially jointly in charge of a team of more than 10 reporters and production editors focusing on the world’s second-largest economy.
