Intro Steampunk Holmes: Legacy of the Nautilus

‘All Or Nothing’ is the long-awaited follow up to Calyx & TeeBee’s debut album ‘Anatomy’ set to be released on one of the bass music scene’s longest running and most highly respected labels, Ram Records. The duo’s first single from their new album has already been supported by Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Trevor Nelson and many more of the world’s leading tastemakers, and ‘All Or Nothing’ looks set to catapult this incredible production partnership to all new heights. 

Calyx & TeeBee’s debut album ‘Anatomy’, released in 2007 on their own label was an instant game changer; cited as a landmark album for the scene ‘Anatomy’ saw the duo unleash an almighty wall of sound that rocked dance floors across the globe as they took to the road with their 6 deck DJ sets, smashing apart sound systems in nightclubs and festival tents alike.  

Now, five years later, hordes of fans are aching for a new Calyx & TeeBee album and the duo are definitely not going to disappoint. Signing to Ram Records, Calyx & TeeBee have produced a long player that sounds fresh, current and forward-thinking. ‘All Or Nothing’ is their sophomore offering and is packed with new ideas, exciting collaborations, stunning musicality and an incredible level of technical skill. 

From the epic opening gambit, ‘Heroes & Villains’, it’s clear that Calyx & TeeBee have created something special with their new album. The D&B jazz fusion of ‘Pure Gold’ ft. Kemo contrasts beautifully with the vocal-led minimalism of ‘Strung Out’ and the hip hop excellence of ‘We Become One’, a collaboration with Foreign Beggars and DJ Craze. Then Calyx & TeeBee hit you with the rock-influenced ‘You’ll Never Take Me Alive’ featuring Beardyman, providing yet another inspired piece of deliciously different drum & bass. Each track on ‘All Or Nothing’ is crafted with expert precision and infused with a fresh and unique set of influences.

But while ‘All Or Nothing’ is packed with stand-out moments, it’s the album as a whole that becomes something far more exciting than the sum of its parts. 'Twas the end of the year, and all through the land
The steampunks had fêtes and soirées all planned.
Whether top-hat and tails, or grease-stained coverall,
They put on their finest to meet at the ball.
Their hats were all covered with goggles and gears,
And high-octane beverages filled bandoliers.
Then, boarding dirigible, hansom and sub,
They all made their way to the Lovelace Club.


CHORUS:
     Shovel more coal into the boilers
     Set the airship for the North Pole
     As we float through the sky
     Keep a watchful eye
     For reindeer out the porthole
     Strap your goggles on against the blizzard
     Hang a wreath on each hatchway
     As we all sail up
     Raise the wassail cup
     To the steampunk holiday!


And when they'd arrived, and the seats were arranged,
Their cards, and handshakes, and gifts were exchanged.
Mechanical marvels, and boxes of tea,
Fob watches, and pickle jars filled with debris.
A vintage edition, a clockwork coal scuttle,
And clothing in styles from risqué to subtle.
The children got toys; the adults did too
(Though many of the latter were from "Doctor Who").


CHORUS

Those revelers possessing a musical bent
Serenaded all the others who were at the event.
Then braving the cold winter snow, slush and sleet,
They sang jolly carols from street to street.

(sung) And here is to Babbage's Difference Engine, 
       Which all do agree is a splendid invention!

Then after a brief fusillade of snowballs,
They made their retreat to the warmth of the hall.

CHORUS

The cooks had prepared a marvellous feast,
With all of the trimmings (and of course, a roast beast)
But if "caput apri de fero" would not do,
They'd also cooked up vegetarian stew.
And when they'd all dined, everybody agreed,
'Twas a wonderful holiday party indeed.
Then ere they departed, before they'd all gone,
They vowed to reconvene at the very next con.
