I own a valve distortion box designed and built by Theo Argiriadis, an analogue electronics designer and engineer working in North London. This is a study for simple sine wave harmonies played through various types of distortion.

Walking through Croydon with my portable audio recorder, I saw a minor road rage incident: bloke slams his brakes on outside Argos, girl tailgating him has to slam on her brakes, calls him an idiot and drives off, bloke gets the hump and gives chase, two old women give a commentary. When I got home I realised that the recording was full of amazing sounds: Surrey Street market traders, car stereo basslines, distant scaffolding clunks... so I chopped it up and made a track from it. The original audio plays about three-quarters of the way through the track.

A Trio of Beats

I've been working with Native Instruments Reaktor for a few years now. Here's a track produced by a Feedback Reverb instrument I designed and built: the instrument listens to the sound of unplugged inputs in my soundcard, then feeds back on itself, turning its feedback down when its output becomes too loud, and turning the feedback up when the output dies away. I didn't know what to expect from it - certainly not that it would sound amazing every time I loaded it up.
