“Die Vögel” is German for “the birds”, but those who've been following Pampa Records from the beginning know that this duo isn't some Schlager tribute to that hippie folk band. 

Not counting last fall's excellent remix for Dntel, it's been nearly two full years since we've heard from Die Vögel. Is something afowl? Not to worry: Jakobus Durstewitz and Mense Reents still flock together and their new EP is ready to hatch, just in time for summer. And they've got quite an interesting guest with them this time...

“The Chicken” begins with that familiar Pampa swagger, all clickety clackety in 3-D, and soon we hear the extended howl of some kind of beaked instrument, searing into your skull, as a looming voice dares you to “try to look a chicken in the eye”. Is that Vincent Price? No, it's famed shoe-eating director Werner Herzog. (But yes, this release could prove itself to be no less than Die Vögel's Thriller.) Further layers of this hypnotic laser cry enter and exit, beckoning the sunrise, but you, my friend, are captive to its trance for the entire nine minutes.

When the rush wears off, relaxation sets in. It figures. Yet, it is not easy to strike the right chord for every era musically. Taron-Trekka is familiar with both: the exhilarating turmoil and pushing of a club night as well as the soothing decay and the eager beginning of the night. One simply hears this in their countless tracks. The new EP “Pourpre Sable” focuses on the beginnings and the endings: when things go calmer, continuously or reconvened, when conversations, thoughts and memories mingle with gliding grooves, when the synapses are fully attuned to deepness.
 
However, the three tracks are not making do with reduced, dimmed house arrangements – despite those very three being a truly big deal in terms of deepness. No way, Taron-Trekka have snatched Violet Starfish.  Their casual, yet almost intimate singsong gives the tracks a spoken word profundity that will melt in one’s mouth. Never intrusive, never put-on. Instead, subtly entangled with the grooves and chords. Storytelling on and beside the dancefloor.

”Okular“
In decelerated fashion, ”Okular“ shifts through entwined string sections, flushed by a few brightly flashing key strokes on the synth. In addition, a brief smile from Violet Starfish. Super deep.

”Shera“
The atmosphere remains dimmed, but the bass drum is a lot tighter. ”Shera“ focuses on field recordings of a distant road, on few, concise sounds and the voice of Violet Starfish. Is this the prime time peeking out or can we expect any more to happen today?

”The Willow Tree“
A track with classical potential. Gently vibrant house chords amid dynamic bass drums and percussions, Violet Starfish at its best. A shimmer in the air and all of a sudden, the sun is flooding the floor with all its warmth.

Monkey Maffia füllt irgendwo auf der Welt mühelos einen Club. Nun fällt ihm auch noch Musik ein, die den Menschen wirklich etwas bedeuten kann. War sein Debüt noch eine Suche, hat er mit seiner zweiten Vö. direkt Platz genommen. Seine Variationskompetenz, die man auch von ihm als DJ-Derwisch kennt, hat er etwas gezügelt und in die richtigen Bahnen gelenkt. Siehe da: Three Maffia Lions die da brüllen Monkey’s coming home! 
Alle drei Lieder kommen mit einem Schwung daher, welcher einen aus dem Sessel kippt.  Mit der Flamme im Herzen entwickelt er eine Art Ghetto Slam-Sound, getränkt in Euphorie &amp; Spielfreude mit Mut zum Experiment. Ist das noch House oder Techno?!
Als notorischer Musikliebhaber und Beat-Sammler hat er eine Vielzahl von Einflüssen in sich aufgesogen. Eine Affinität zu Breaks samt UK Funky &amp; Garage Würze machen bei ihm den Jack aus. Ja, die Leerstellen machen den Groove. Sollen doch Andere hochdeutsch sabbeln und recyceln. Er liebt die feinen Dialekte der Welt und das hört man seiner Musik bis in die hintersten Ritzen an. Weltoffen mit einer Coolness in der Hüfte hat Monkey Maffia einen Klang mit eigener Dichtung entwickelt, der weit über die Club Standardsprache hinausgeht, um genau da seine volle Wirkung zu erzielen. 

A) Ganz klar, dies ist die Rampensau der Platte. Es beginnt gerade, plötzlich hüpfen überall Breakdancer herum. Eine unwiderstehliche Stimme reibt sich mit den Beats und Bässen, bis alles zu einem Monster von Track in den Superlativ zielt. Dieser shaked Groove ist der Beste den es jemals gegen Zellulitis gegeben hat.
B1) Ein Traumprinz sitzt am Piano. Dazu geht eine Beatstruktur steil, die samt female Vocal- Schnipsel mit dezenter 90ies Affinität aus den Boxen drückt. Sommer Freiflächen must have and play für ein Lebensgefühl an der frischen Luft. Schöne Freiheit.

B2) Herzlich Willkommen zum Trommelworkshop in der Klapsmühle! Monkey Voodoo Zauber unter Einfluss feinster Naturdrogen. Einfach mal probieren…

Tiefschwarz’s Souvenir label kicks off the 2019 year in brilliant form with an EP from Germany’s Metaboman (Musik Krause), featuring 4 mind-melting slices of underground dancefloor weaponry perfectly stripped back to the most essential elements. The EP, ‘Einseins’ is Metaboman’s debut offering for the Berlin imprint, and easily one of his most ambitious and expertly crafted releases to date. The release includes a Robag Wruhme remix which makes it the first time in over 15 years the two are back on a release together.

So much more important than any of the parties, the interminable travel, magazine covers or cash, every great DJ should begin first and foremost, with one goal: to be the most avid collector. Honing down the multitude of records is his task, through unearthing and treasuring music, new and old; almost as a traveler navigating his way through the ocean of new sounds. It&apos;s this constant drive for sonic exploration that&apos;s responsible for Souvenir, the Berlin label spearheaded by the brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz, better known to the world simply as Tiefschwarz.

With over five years in existence, the label has steadily amassed an impressive roster of artists, forming a closely-knit family of upcoming producers around them, as well as working alongside some of the leading figures in contemporary electronic music. It’s also been a home for most of Tiefschwarz’s own output with the young label’s very first release being the single ‘Hey’ back in 2006, recorded under the brother’s Ichundu alias. Since then they’ve had a ten-year celebratory ‘Best Of’ compilation, an album ‘Chocolate’ and their ‘In The City’ label sampler. With a whole host of artists having released singles along the way, including names like Riton, Phonique and Ziggy Kinder, the label has now become home to a steady group of talented young producers, Re.You, Sante, Chris Wood &amp; Meat and Ruede Hagelstein. Ruede himself recently released his debut album, ‘Soft Pack’ alongside his band The Noblettes, an electro-indie sound with an ethereal, downbeat version of his dancefloor anthem ‘Emergency’. In order to foster up and coming talent, Souvenir launched a digital-only label called Souvenirplus, and with plenty already on the cards for 2012 (including perhaps a much anticipated, new Tiefschwarz album), this small label proves exactly why Berlin really is the world capital for contemporary electronic music.
