Next up in our Record Club Guest Mix series are Sanctuary, the moniker of Ben and Liam, a DJ duo from Australia who have been living in Berlin for the past 9 years. You may be familiar with their 'Life Classics' project. It started as an output for their own edits then later branched out into a mix series and club residency at OHM in Berlin.

Their mix landed in our inbox and from the get-go we knew it was destined for the Record Club series. Covering many spectrums of soul, it masterfully glides through tempos and unleashes a quiet storm inside you. Not ones to fear a vocal, it's stuffed full of soaring voices, sweet strings and the tightest grooves. An extended blend done right!

The guys pulled from of a couple of record bags and served it up on 1210’s at their Berlin base. As they described it "back to back burgers, boozas and records all the way". 

The mix is loaded with many of their favourites and a few dusty ones from the back of their shelves. Look out for cuts from Reggie S, Stage Coach, Edwynn Page and Herby Charles. It's packed with winners, some you knew, some you do now. A real steppers' delight.

There are few artists quite like Shy, a Berlin-based, American-born producer publicly recognized under various monikers including Special Guest DJ, Caveman LSD, uon, and through his myriad collaborations. His own productions and mixes consistently defy expectations, adeptly capturing the essence of the moment while continuously pushing boundaries.

Meanwhile, Shy's contributions to other artists' releases echo this distinctive signature sound. Whether collaborative, enigmatic, or paradigm-breaking, his imprint on the realms of modern club and ambient music is undeniable.

In 2021, a notable shift occurred as Shy's latest venture, @triplexlarge (3XL), emerged in the wake of imprints like Experiences Ltd., bblisss, and xpq?, of which he was solely or partially involved in. "The Nuances of El Tusk"

If you don’t already know, the Dean Blunt, Klein and Yasiin Bey (AKA Mos Def) collaborator always seems to be at the forefront of the most vital DIY scenes. A genre-agnostic producer and sound curator typically found holding it down at Venue MOT, The Glove That Fits and Ormside Projects (where he runs his quarterly club night, ÜNDERGØDS).

Weirdo tendencies in full effect, a multidisciplinary 'one-man-band' approach is adopted across most endeavours: running the UltraWaveVisions label to producing original music, soundtracking fashion shows, art house film installations and clothing design, this guy does it all. 

Safe to say he has an ear for the explorative, and making offerings of “rare, eclectic, unreleased, experimental and weird thought-provoking music”, this mix is a case in point.

A brief two-hour window into the unfathomably rich and storied music of Afghanistan – a musical heritage which reflects the country’s unique geographical position and status as a central point in a melting pot of cultures. 

The show mostly features recordings from before the outbreak of Afghanistan’s civil war in 1979, or by Afghans living in exile. Music was banned under the Taliban’s initial rule, and since their return to power in 2022, Afghanistan is once again silent.

Dissonance marries harmony in tightly written songs inspired by the musicality and aesthetics of a misremembered bygone era.
