Gary Thackrah - Audio Demo

Melbourne guitarist Troy Male was inspired to play guitar at the age of 14 due to the release of Guns ‘N’ Roses Appetite For Destruction.
After leaving high school he went and studied at Box Hill TAFE and obtained a degree from LaTrobe University. Troy then fled Australia for London, England where he lived for two years. In this time he played on a weekly basis around London and wrote  music for the children’s TV show Blue Peter.
Upon returning to Australia Troy completed his Music Teaching qualification at ACU before embarking on two and a half years as an orchestral guitarist for Princess Cruises sailing to random corners of the globe during the day while backing guest entertainer singers, dancers, magicians and soloists at night.
Troy has been working and living in Australia again since 2008 and has worked on stage show Jersey Boys, as well as recently working on Godspell for the Magnormos theatre company. He also does regular session work for  SimonPaul at ninetynine/100 studios and plays with the Baker Boys band as well as regular solo and duo gigs with Elia Cannizzo (Soul Obsession/Tryst).

Long regarded as one of Australia's foremost musical outfits, they bring to their dynamic instrumentals and songs the sounds of klezmer, blues, ska, Gypsy swing and waltzes, jazz, Australian folk music, romantic ballads, whirling frenetic traditional dance tunes and more. 
They carry the audience along an emotional journey and break down language barriers through engaging explanations of the Yiddish songs.

Klezmania - KLEZMER BAND

Ernie Gruner (violin, mandolin, vocals) and Phil Carroll (accordion, vocals, ney) play Gypsy, Klezmer, Turkish, French, Italian, Russian, jazz and tango music which range from soulful to wild. They’ve both studied overseas, and played and recorded together in larger bands (Klezmeritis (see elsewhere on this site), Yalla!, Flirting Mazurkas).

They’ve studied overseas in Montreal, Istanbul, New York, Cracow and Budapest, and recorded two CDs; “Bohemian Nights” 2005, and “Brothers in Borscht” 2010.

Australian concerts include several National Folk Festivals, the National Multicultural Festival, Fairbridge Festivals, Cygnet Festivals, The Boite.

Touring includes regional Victoria, several West Australia tours. Phil and Ernie’s seven New Zealand tours have included the Wellington & Dunedin Folk Festivals and the Christchurch Jazz Festival, Spiegeltent. Bohemian Nights has played monthly at the Budapest Restaurant for 8 years.

Ernie specializes in Jewish music and Phil specializes in Middle-Eastern music. They have worked together with theatre and dance events for Russian, Armenian, Jewish, Turkish, French and Italian and other productions and communities, as well as parties and weddings since 1999.

Ernie and Phil are experienced at leading music workshops (Klezmer, Middle-Eastern, Singing -Eastern European Jewish wordless, Fiddle, Improvising, etc) .

They are available as roving musicians, or for parades. Bohemian Nights has played for dances in all styles of Klezmer/Gypsy, Tango/Milonga, Jazz/Latin, Australian Bush.
