Buckle up, friends! This week’s RIPEcast takes us back to an epic set from Breakfast of Champions x It’s A New Day 2023. We’re thrilled to share this live mix from legendary pioneer of bass n beats, Freestylers! This set absolutely mashed the dance floor with old school vibes and new school flavor. Huge thanks to Freestylers for not only sharing these massive tunes with the BoC party, but letting us bring it to you on the podcast as well.

Freestylers - Live @ BoC + IAND 2023 - RIPEcast

This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

Breakbeat Breakfast Reconstructed - Jan 2024

Ayyyyy! If you were at Breakfast of Champions x It's a New Day this year, I hope you had as much fun as I did! I book-ended the party, mixing video on the Mog at the beginning and DJing on the BoC Space Stage to close the party out. Huge thanks to the happy crowd out there at the end—you made my night and helped kick off 2024 with an incredibly positive boost. 

Here's my set from the party! As usual, I put a lot into it—editing, layering samples and acapellas—and I was also inclined to detoured into DnB for a bit. Enjoy!

It’s always an honor to play there and it was also my first time playing on the Mog, about a decade after dancing to DJs on the Mog inspired me to DJ! I started making this mix series 11 years ago to celebrate my birthday and DJ anniversary.  After a short break, I am pleased to bring the tradition back to life with Twenty-Two, celebrating my 50th birthday and 22 years of DJing. I usually set a lot of rules for programming these studio mixes but I let that all go for this mix and just chose what moved me. I hope it moves you too! I found the album cover quite fitting, which was taken at my 40th at the first ShOOnanigans 10 years ago! 

I am excited to celebrate my 50th at Public Works SF on Sat 7/19! We have one of my favorite producers, Aylen, headlining along with special guests and my long-time friends Dulce Vita (Opulent Temple), Haute Mess (Brass Tax), and Nugz (Dusty Rhino).
