Breaks Mixes

On July 12th Zach Moore was in Brooklyn to play the Vitamin B monthly, which is a fabulous breaks party - the only one of its kind in New York as far as we know. As he has been know to do, Zach recorded all of the DJ sets from the evening. This is the first of those recordings featuring the musical stylings of Vitamin B resident, Tim The Enchanter. Enjoy!

Breakbeat evangelist Tim The Enchanter (Vitamin B, Brooklyn) first discovered electronic music in the warehouses of NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC in the mid 90's. He bought some crappy 4th-hand turntables and a Radio Shack mixer and hasn’t looked back  (although his gear has improved). After a decade of spinning to a packed bedroom of two cats, Tim made the jump to playing for humans and quickly became a resident at Vitamin B, NYC’s longest-running monthly breaks party. In his spare time he enjoys fiddling with Ableton, building temporary hot tubs and making the tastiest almond milk on the east coast.

Playing the 25th Anniversary of Breakfast of Champions was an absolute honor. The Space Cowboys have been a huge inspiration in my journey as a DJ, so getting the chance to represent Brooklyn at BOC this year was a dream come true. Sharing the stage with legends like Sporty-O  & Thug Shells  —who both came out to perform with me—made it even more special.
Knowing I was playing for a veteran crowd that’s heard and danced to some of the best breaks out there, I knew I had to bring my A-game. I think I accurately delivered my sound, keeping the energy high and the dance floor moving until the very end. Closing out the legendary MOG Stage alongside my mentors was an unforgettable experience.
Huge thanks to DJ Deckard, Rumblemunk, and the entire Space Cowboys crew for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel at home!

I started making this mix series 11 years ago to celebrate my birthday and DJ anniversary.  After a short break, I am pleased to bring the tradition back to life with Twenty-Two, celebrating my 50th birthday and 22 years of DJing. It's horribly unfair, but unfortunately the responsibilities of adulthood sometimes have a knack for getting in the way of a good time. Case in point: Halloween is the bestest holiday ever, and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is by playing a special, ghoulish set at Ghost Ship. This year, however, a couple little things called work and parenthood loomed as obstacles to finding the time to brew my special mix. But thanks to a little black magic I like to call "multi-tasking", I was able to meet my professional and familial obligations, while still weaving together a set of new breaks, old rave classics, along with some spooky surprises. "This year's BOC was maybe the most enjoyable I've ever played. Something about the vibe, the weather, the music and the throngs of friendly faces combined to produce something special. I was also really stoked on the opportunity to open up the main, outside sound system and get the street party started....We had a few technical glitches during my set - a short circuit in one of the cords meant that the power went out a few times, but luckily, with two minor edits I have been able to salvage my entire mix so that it sounds seamless. Every week since 2010, we feature exclusive house, breakbeat, and drum 'n' bass mixes from our own roster of DJs as well as from Krafty Kuts, Ardalan, Yo Speed, Left/Right, A.Skillz, Plump DJs, Elite Force, Slyde, and more.

Yaz is a San Francisco-based DJ who enjoys playing tech house, deep tech, minimal, and techno. He is an active member of the Burning Man community and underground house/techno community in San Francisco.

Yaz has played all over San Francisco at all the major venues, including Public Works, Mighty / The Great Northern, Monarch, Midway, and Halcyon. He was a resident DJ at the venerated Wish Lounge for 5+ years, running his monthly Wayward party right up until the pandemic caused Wish to close. Once it was safe to do so, he has taken Wayward to its new home F8 Nightclub, and has been a resident there since August 2021. 

Yaz has collaborated with many different promoters and labels, and has opened and closed for (or shared billing with) well-known artists including John Digweed, Bob Moses, The Scumfrog, Tommy Four Seven, John Monkman, Technasia, and Marques Wyatt, to name a few.

His love for Burning Man is only rivaled by his love for music. His styles go from deep tech, minimal and techno to indie dance. You can find him on the playa playing for his camp DeMentha, and everywhere else for The Janky Barge, Airpusher, and Icarus. Yaz has also participated in many fundraisers in San Francisco for the aforementioned camps, as well as DISTRIKT, Mayan Warrior, the Salty Jacks, and others.
