New York House and Disco legend Eli Escobar has been releasing music for over 20 years under various aliases as well as running incredible parties and his own label Night People. We’ve been huge fans of his productions over the years and when a chance to release some of his stellar music on our Phonica main label came about, we were over the moon.

The “Find A Way EP” kicks off with “FindAWay2Day”, combining heavy hitting 808 drum work with deeply satisfying vocal samples, a beyond groovy bassline and 80s Electro-Funk galore. “Something Inside Of Me” leans towards a classic US Deep Garage House blueprint, with sampled chord stabs, mesmerising vocal hooks and MPC style swung drum programming.

Over on the B-Side, jacking House meets Deep Detroit Techno on “Down All Day” with a frenzied, chopped and replayed vocal melody melding with lush and relaxing pads until the piano line enters and pushes the track into pure euphoria. Finally “Daywun” conjures memories of the best funk of the 1980s, propelled by a bass riff that weaves through the drum hits and smacks just right, layering it with chords that feel like driving through California’s highways at midnight and an Electro Hip hop B-Boy style rap sample. The EP is a perfect combination of production highlights from House music’s influences and a modern approach with the freedom of style and genre while never sacrificing quality.

Julien "Larry Quest" Berland is a young music maker, DJ and arts activist. He was born a french, lived in London for a while and recently settled in sunny Lisboa. He is a trained keyboardist and a
seasoned producer with works released on revered labels such as Delusions of Grandeur or Pleasure of Love - and of course Percebes Música, having had his debut on the label with "Faíscas", released in 2022 and still going strong in DJ playlists. Julien's sound is brimming with references to solid historic soundscapes, particularly the deepest end of the Chicago House music spectrum. Berland composes and produces music like someone who's learned lessons from the likes of such legends as Larry Heard, Boo Williams or Derrick Carter, but also underground heroes like Ricardo Miranda or Chris Gray. 

His EP "Austro" presents three tracks, pristinely created and mixed to weave a tightly knit texture of deep house that combines elements of jazz, gospel, funk and soul under a relentless electronic backdrop with clear references to rave culture and bleepy acid. While "Forest Jump" starts things off with a smooth beginning and takes off to dizzying heights, "Shoredance" bounces organ stabs with sharp snares and a thigh slapping beat and "303 Moonrise" evocates that classic, old school UR vibe to great effect. Eager to get into real house music made by a fresh, up and coming producer? Get into Larry Quest's brilliant "Austro" and enjoy one of deep house's most interesting current creators.

For our fourteenth release we head to Barcelona and welcome an institution of the city's fast moving electronic scene. Pau Roca has an adaptable attitude to music; deftly turning his hand to house, disco, boogie and electronic elements in a 15 year career that has seen him perform all over Europe. 

The SS20 EP comprises three original tracks that take influence from deep house, acid, breaks and chilled moments. Remixes come in the form of one of Europe’s hottest DJ and production duo’s Eternal Love, and the label’s own Joe Morris.
