A lone violinist –
his heart belongs to music, not to war.
Outside, drums march, dull and relentless,
soldiers are driven, cannons thunder,
shots are fired, first from one side, then from both –
always the same, always senseless.

Most people have nothing to do with this war,
they are drawn in, forced,
their names written on blank signs,
crosses made of rough wood, hastily nailed together.

Through the window, where the violinist stands,
the chaos of the world breaks in –
until, in the end, the music falls silent,
the glass shatters,
and only silence remains.

“our war?” asks about meaning,
about the true instigators,
and about the hope that one day
it will not be the drums of war,
but the sounds of love and humanity
that fill our world.
