I am never happier and more excited than when I get to release a debut EP from an artist. I got sent these demos from @mariiinmusic and immediately knew they were destined for release.

There is a rawness and intensity that sometimes comes with a level of naivety and I can hear that present in these tracks. When you are near the beginning of your production journey I think you inevitably write more with feeling than anything else and I think that is why these tracks work so well.

Mariiin is a dynamite DJ and obviously has a fantastic ear for groove and what will work on the dance floor but I know from experience that being a great DJ doesn’t always translate into being a great producer. Fortunately, in Mariiin’s case it certainly has and in turn we all get the joy of experiencing these tracks. Wonderful news!

We decided to reach for a remix for the B2 and I turned to label stalwart and close friend @guavanoise for the goods. He turned one out in typical Guava style. Twisting and turning your mind as you listen. It’s a wild old ride.

I’ve been sitting on these for a good few months now and I can’t wait to share them with the world. Big shouts to Mariiin for coming through with such a sick first EP. I wish mine had been half as good as this :D

It Light’ was previously only available on limited CD. Things accelerate on ‘Out Of Touch’, the latest
in a line of shimmering dancefloor missiles from Sohrab. On the flip, DJ N4 falls fully into a trance on
‘Bio Aggregation’, with vocalisations, acid lines and organic percussion all driving us to warp speed.
‘Bad Weather’ by French electro wiz Fasme completes the trip, a craftily mutating electro-meets-prog
epic whose beautiful outro will see you home safely. Enjoy the ride.

Adam Pits kicks things off with Real Taste Of Gravity, a rising, trancey journey with a wonderful proggy bassline and synths-a-twinkling. Desert Sound Colony & Dr. Baird combine for the warpy, acid-flecked bassy roller Space Bass Express before Breaka and Adam Pits join for a classy breaks track with bubbling EFX called The Show Must Go On, named after Nic reversed a van into a parked car after setting up the space•lab party in Brum where they all met. Inner Zone (Rupert Worthington, Alex Anderson and label head Nic Baird) round things off with their debut release Niaaru - a sunrise weeper for those who like breakbeats with their Coco Pops.

MUSICA AUSTRALIS INCOGNITA -SERIES PT 1

This release is the first in a three-part series titled “Musica Australis Incognita” showcasing timeless and captivating contemporary electronic music from a new-generation of Australian producers.

The series starts in Melbourne with Solar Suite’s solo debut (Escape Artist remixing) on the 16th of October. In early December, the spotlight moves to Sydney with another solo debutant, Point Guard at the controls with a PMA remix. Finally, in late January we see the return of DJ Life to the label with a fellow Melbournian Rudolf C on remix duties.
