This was my first set in front of a crowd since the pandemic started and it was so much damn fun to play the tunes I like in front of the friends that I love. Tried to squeeze in as many genres as I could in ~1hr so keep your ears open for some house, techno, breaks, garage, acid, and psytrance.

Atipik is the Hanoi-based music & arts collective defined by a team of power players in the underground scene.  The audio-bomb-squad consists of three heavy hitters from (what is colloquially referred to as) the “Serbian embassy” in Vietnam: men-like Dusan & Techa, along with boss lady Teodora Van Context. Fourthly & most recently added to the Atipik DJ roster—along with a resident title at The Observatory in Saigon— is local Hanoi-hero, TaoFu. Individually & collectively, these four club veterans have destroyed dance floors of all shapes and sizes throughout Vietnam in recent years, and as Hanoi was facing another pandemic lockdown, the Atipik crew put their heads and ears together to record this 4+ hour mix, delivering sonic feelings of escape, adventure & sorcery.

Most people who know me and my taste in music know that I'm not a big listener of ambient music so this was one of the most challenging mixes I've done yet. I tried to soundtrack a journey to and from space. Scenes and ideas such as arriving at the launch site, liftoff, the endless exploration of space, experiencing a problem, coming back to Earth and thinking about the journey behind and the journey ahead.

"I started DJing and producing electronic music in 2009, after seeing acts like 2ManyDJs and Justice doing genre-backflips in their sets, and that’s an ethos I’ve tried to carry with me through the years.  My roots are in punk music, and I’ve never stopped chasing the kind of energy and spirit that it represents to me. It takes different forms– acid house, new wave, industrial, disco, funk, hi-nrg/italo, jazz, etc.– I try not to discriminate and just bee-line to the good vibe.
Through lockdown, I ordered a bunch of records to keep my spirits up– a lot of old favorites and some new discoveries to pad out the orders. Most of what you hear in this (all-vinyl) mix was acquired during the pandemic, and I didn’t overthink the selection. It’s just some fun energy to take us into 2022. Seeping in from the UK, Dane has found his feet in the Southeast Asia scene over the last 6 years, performing mixes in numerous festivals and intimate settings around Oceania including New Zealand and Australia. His well-cultured upbringing has taken shape, and reflects in his curations, which are percussive, immersive, atmospheric, and deliver a wide range of color.

A few words he shared about this journey:

“Like a bowl of milk, starts light housey, then goes in deep into the bowl of milk. Then minimal vibe breathing, high energy, deep energy. Then comes out light at the end. Sounds squeaky and cosmic spacey, ‘space crickets’ tunes etc.“

This month’s featured mix is by a human whom is just as talented as he is genuinely sweet to the people around him. @natewillert impresses us all with his vast musical knowledge and mind for sound. He cooks up a new song almost every day, always finding clever ways to incorporate unique vocal sampling and live instrumental sounds.

He had a few words to share about this mix:

✨My biggest inspiration for this set was a show I saw by DJ Koze. Although none of the tracks in this mix are Koze tracks, I felt inspired by the deep side of his dance floor, and noticed that I was moving in and out of myself throughout the experience.✨

Dano Huerta, more commonly known these days as the Moose Man, is a visually & musically minded LA-born party gremlin who's now based in Saigon, Vietnam.  While navigating his Honda Turbo Wave through the rivers of Saigon traffic, Moose has been secretly marinating his ears in a milky bath of deep, high-energy techno noodle soup.  After squeezing this inspiration into his dig/mix sessions, like a lime into his Bún Chả, the Moose Man has effectively brewed up a full-throttle bowl of fast-paced steamy slammers for the 0049th Transmission of Sweet Drippinz on Space Milk Radio.

Preceding his upcoming Vietnam tour, Hari Nayla has delivered 93 minutes of pure cream-steam, coming in hot from his home studio in Bristol, UK. 

At 15, Hari Nayla traded his drum kit for turntables and started collecting records. He embarked on a journey of discovering various genres and eras. Alongside this exploration, Nayla mastered the art of creating hip hop beats and dusty edits, establishing his own artistic style. Currently, Nayla's music direction revolves around capturing the power of intergalactic sounds. He delves into the realms of prog house, electro, and the soul-stirring echoes of 90s House, uncovering hidden treasures that ignite dancefloors. Over the last couple of years, Nayla has quickly built up an impressive portfolio. He has featured on the line-ups of some of Europes most popular music festivals: Meadows In The Mountains, Secret Garden Party, Boomtown, and Shambala. He has begun to take his sounds across the seas, to countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Bulgaria and Portugal. This includes festivals such as Wonderfruit, Jai Thep, Tao Festival, Quest Festival and Kolour (Bangkok). Nayla has also played with and supported popular artists such as Ben UFO, Giles Peterson, Hodge, Romain FX, Cleveland, and Sameed and is holding down multiple residencies across the Europe and Asia.

Transmission 52 is delivered by a long-time friend of Space Milk, Gibsun: a multidimensional artist known for creating events and DJ’ing on the West Coast and beyond. He loves sharing the music from his everlasting digs across genres. He’s the co-founder of Divine Species, a collective and record label born in California but based in Berlin.

Olas is well known party wizard along & beyond the west coast of the US. He is a man of many musical aliases, but this is not one of them -- this mix is just Olas, being himself, having a good time with the music.  The resulting sonic potion is a feel-good cauldron of summertime-house-soup with an introspective twist, sure to keep you grooving with its chill heat.

Get ready to groove with Bangkok-based Belgian DJ, Logisticman, who has been on a Southeast Asian trip since 2016. With a passion for delivering a well-balanced selection of classic and acid house, Logisticman places a strong emphasis on Belgian rave culture and overall groovy sounds. He lets the dancefloor dictate the direction of his sets, aiming to keep the energy high.

Some words from Logisticman about the recording:

"Dove into my latest tracks, some yet to be "crow-tested," but each one has my stamp of personal approval.  Some deeper, some pretty acidy and some recently released tracks (inter alia Singapore's 'Bongomann" and Belgium's "Nathan Boost", be sure to check them both out).

Founder of The Villa Project in Thao Dien & party series, Electronic Imports, Mike stays busy imprinting his legacy on the Vietnam music scene. This set was recorded live at Bar Commune in Saigon, warming up the Japanese-style club room for the legendary Youandewan, who paid us a nice visit during Halloween.
