A collection of covers of master Brazilian musician and writer Jorge Ben. With such classics under his belt as Mas Que Nada, covered by the likes of Sergio Mendes, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Al Jarreau, and the song Taj Mahal which was the source of Rod Stewart’s Do You Think I’m Sexy?, Ben is a huge force in Brazilian popular music.

Often described as the James Brown of Brazilian music due to his prolific output, he is the most sampled Brazilian artist ever with people from the Black Eyed Peas to DJ Marky lifting elements off his tracks. His song catalogue has also been covered by some of the finest bands in Brazil.

This selection represents a more dance-floor orientated outing including mega rarities for the collecting fiends like Cosa Nostra by Os Mutreteiros Grilados and tracks that even Ben himself never got around to singing like Rei Do Maracatu's Cyro Aguiar.

"Miami producer Nick León’s latest offering, Aguacero, is a percussive reflection on a city in flux. Blending organic sounds with the digital tools of electronic music, the 7-track EP encapsulates the growing anxiety in a city threatened by the very things that help make it beautiful — the ocean, the heat, and the cranes in the sky.

The project’s title track is as haunting as it is hypnotic and its winding immersion into the tropics invites you to dance under the moonlight, even as danger abounds. “Pelican Dub,” featuring Uruguayan artist Lila Tirando a Violeta, is a seductive spiral into the digital abyss; seabirds chirp away in the distance as reverb-heavy vocals are chopped and layered under pulsating rhythms apt for an after-hours drive down Biscayne Boulevard. On “Tormenta,” Nick León molds a distinct soundscape that synthesizes the serene sounds of the Americas with a healthy dose of industrial aggression.

South Florida, by virtue of its geography, its history and its migrant population, has birthed some of the world’s most dynamic musicians and movements. If artists from Miami’s past have helped teach the world to dance to thumping bass until the early morning, Nick León’s latest project invites the world to dance through the impending storm of uncertainty ushered in by climate change. There is a slick defiance in Aguacero’s composition, a nod to the sense of nihilism we all feel as the world around us feels increasingly treacherous."

Coming through the buzzing scene in South Florida, Nick León cut his teeth as a producer working with local talent and some of the region’s biggest rap artists including Denzel Curry and Robb Bank$. It was these collaborations that helped bring his name to a global audience and giving him the confidence and platform to explore his own sound. In 2016, Nick released his well-received debut album Profecía and has since gone on to release for Mexican label NAAFI, Space Tapes Miami and most recently Dengue Dengue Dengue’s newly launched imprint kebrada. Nick also collaborated with fellow Miami producers INVT for a brilliant collaborative album PASEO which they started at the beginning of the pandemic.
