I WANT TO BE NOTICED-the Complete Musical with stage play and lyric

This is the first song in a musical we wrote called “I WANT TO BE NOTICED”. It's the story about fame and discovery, and a girl named Jellybean Fisher who moves to San Francisco to find herself. She’s from New Orleans. Daughter of mixed race couple, she’s just off the boat when we meet her. People come to SF just to explore what life has to offer and that's what she's about to do…when the curtain comes up. 
We see a street scene where people are lining up in front of a Club in the South of Market in SF. Jellybean has come to the club to play in the open-mic night. She stands on the sidewalk in front of the club, holding her guitar and looking up at the name of the place, when a old homeless man comes up to her and asks for some spare change.
JB: “Maybe after the show I’ll have something for you. What’s your name?”
Woody: “Woody. And you?”
JB: “Jellybean. Jellybean Fisher. Woody, pleased to meet you.”
Woody: “Thanks.That’s a real nice name, Jellybean.You gonna play that thing in there?”
JB: “Sure am Woody. If you're still here when I get out, I’ll tell you about how it went. Wish me luck.”
Woody: “Sure 'nuff girl. You give 'em hell now!”
JB: “Thanks Woody, I’ll do my best.”
And with that she goes into the club to play her spot.
The walls of the outside of the club open, to show a stage with a house band and people in chairs around tables. 
An MC comes to the mic on the stage and says. “And now our next act tonight is a new talent just here from the Big Easy. Put your hands together for: Jellybean Fisher!” 
People clap as JB come up to the mic.
JB (nervously): "Thanks everyone. I’m gonna play a song I just wrote for tonight. It’s a kind of a first impression song.  I hope you like it.”
NOTE: Wain is singing all the parts: boy, girl, gay, straight, old, and young, so you’ll have to use your imagination. Hope you enjoy the story of Jellybean Fisher.

The last of the performers had hit the stage. Jellybean got third place in the end. It was a good night for her. And her first performance in SF. As she was leaving the club, a group of people that seemed to be all friends together came over to her to talk.

Bill: Hi Jellybean, my name’s Bill. Congrats! You rocked. Really. 

Everyone chimed in agreement. 

JB: Hey ya’ll. Nice to meet you Bill. Thanks man, really, thanks a lot.

Then they all started shaking her hand and introducing themselves.

There was Michael, who looked very young and effeminate - there was no butch in this boy. Probably had a fake ID to get in.
 
Then there was Barbara. She was the Femme, really pretty girl, probably did beauty contests growing up. 

And then there was Jake, Butch Dyke all the way, or maybe even she was a he now, no facial hair that you could see, but wow, Jellybean was instantly attracted to her. And it looked like Jake couldn't keep his eyes off of Jellybean either.

Jake: Yeah, Bill’s right, you rocked! And you looked pretty damn sexy up there too.
Everyone: Oooohhh, hoooooo!!! Jake likes Jellybean!
Jake : Looks like we all do, right? Jellybean, you should come to our performance class. Bill teaches it, it’s fun and you can show your chops and work on your sound. Come. Please.
JB: Cool, yeah that sounds fun, sure. When is it?
Jake: Tuesday night.
JB: I’m there.

As they leave the club, the stage returns to a street scene. As they file back out onto the sidewalk, they encounter Woody the homeless man again.

WOODY: Hey there Jellybean, how’d you do?

JB slips the money she just got for third place into his hand.
JB: Great Woody, thanks man. Got third place bro, not bad.

Then she leans over to say in his ear, whispering.

JB: Take the money and don’t say anything man.
WOODY: Sure sister, no worries, but thanks, you’re a gem Jellybean, really.
JB: Hey y’all, this is Woody. He was here when I got here tonight. He gave me good mojo tonight. That’s why I got third.
WOODY: I think you could of done it on your own, kiddo. I’ve been out here for 20 years now, and I know special when I see it. 
JB: You’ve been out here for 20 years Woody? That’s a long time. 
WOODY: Time? Let me tell you about time.

The Stage behind them in the club reappears. The band begins to play a song. Woody takes center stage and sings.

PART THREE
As Woody steps off the stage, the walls of the club close back in around him and he’s back out on the street. Then you see everybody waving goodbye  and leaving the stage….curtain comes down as the street sounds slowly go silent ….as the curtain goes up again you see a small stage right in the center, with folding chairs in front of it. All the people from the night before are about to watch Barbara the femme do her thing…singing. Bill’s on the stage introducing her.

Bill: And here she is our own resident Beauty queen, Barbara, singing a song she wrote herself. I WANT TO NOTICED.Who knew?

 Everyone claps  as she comes to the stage….as she gets to the middle of the song everyone gets up and moves the chairs aside and dances around her as she wonders the stage.

White girl and a brother. They made me and I guess the gave me the music too.My Dad calls me his sweet little 50-50 or Jellybean on account of I have a thing for jellybeans.
JAKE: Oh your sweet alright, that’s for sure. I bit your folks are both lookers,cuz you Jellybean, are gorgeous!
JELLYBEAN: Thanks Jake, your pretty gorgeous yourself. I’ve never been with a girl before. That’s kinda one of the reasons I came to San Francisco, you know, find myself. That and I wanted to make my own way with my music. So here we are standing outside your place. Are we going in?

As the song ends, Jake takes Jellybeans hand and pulls her to her chest and kisses jellybean. 
As the kiss ends, Jake says.

Then they both go inside and close the door behind them. And the street scene changes form night to day.It’s the next morning and we see Jake and Jellybean coming out the same door they went in to and Jake says…
JAKE: How bout I take you down to the pot club. We could get some more of that weed we smoked last night.
JELLYBEAN: Lead me on baby…think maybe I could get a card?
JAKE: Sure thing, you could see a doctor today.
JELLYBEAN: It’s just that easy? Wow!
And with that they both head down the street to the pot club….
Next we see them setting on a couch smoking weed inside the pot club…..and they both begin to sing…..

THE DOCTORS ORDERS
The doctor told me to smoke marijuana today.
-Smoke a little weed.
I told him I wasn’t sleeping their wasn’t much to say.
-but there’s not much more than that.

JAKE: But you know, I don’t give a fuck what people do with their bodies. Or the drugs they take to be more boy or girl. It’s their life. The song really more about how I see it. I just have never thought I needed any drug or surgery to be  me. I know a lot of FTM’S and if that road make you happy, cool.
JB: What’s FTM?
JAKE:Female to male. Post surgery and on Testosterone. They take T to grow beards and lower their voices. You get bigger mussels too.San Fransisco is full of people living their lives non-cisgender. Or opposite of what they were born. It’s a place of acceptance, what ever flavor of freak you are.
JB: Yeah, I think I get that….cool…Lets go back to that place you live alone at…now. We got our weed.
JAKE:Awesome!!

As the curtain rises we see the girls outside of Jakes place. Jellybean is saying goodbye to Jake later on that night. 

JAKE: Are you sure you have to go?

JELLYBEAN: I told you Jake, I have to work.

JAKE: I know,but couldn't you call in?

JELLYBEAN: Are you gonna pay my rent?

JAKE: You could move in with me, then I wouldn’t be alone anymore.

She kisses her again, but this time slower and longer. Then pushes her away and says..

Jake leaves and goes inside and Jellybean is on the street unlocking her bike from the poll. It’s dark and there’s some guys slowing down as they walk by her. They say something, but she just ignores them. One of them calls her a bitch, but they don't stop. Then Jellybean stands there faces the audience and sings……

As she finishes the song, you see her ride away on her bike. But just as she gets to the end of the stage, the guy who called her a bitch, appears and grabs her into a ally as she screams for help…the curtain comes down.

As the curtain rises on the stage you see Jellybean at General Hospital ER on a bed with a nothing but a gown on and a nurse taking her blood pressure..
NURSE: Your lucky you know.
JELLYBEAN: Oh really? You think just because I’m not dead, I’m lucky?
NURSE: Pretty much, look, I know because I’ve been raped myself. And I’ve seen so much worse here at General. Yes sir, you lucky. You still got all the same beauty and love you had before. It’s just gonna take some time, that’s all. But its still there. I know it feels like he took it, took it all, but he didn’t.It’s still there and you’ll find it. I promise…
Jellybean looked at the nurse and said,
JELLYBEAN: What’s your name?
She points to her name tag..
NURSE: KAY
JELLYBEAN: Thank you KaY. I needed that. I’m glad you worked tonight. But I don’t feel this way. I just don’t want to feel this way.
KAY: It well get better, I promise.
Then Kay the nurse leaves the room. The spot light hit Jellybean sitting on the hospital bed. And then she get up and sings this song.
IM NOT GOING TO LET THIS CHANGE WHO I REALLY AM.
I’m not gonna turn into someone who just doesn’t give a damn.
And I’m not gonna let this change who I really am. 
But what do I do with all this rage I feel, all my compassion is gone.
He took something from me, that he can’t return.
And all the clothes I was wearing I just want to burn.

I know this happens all the time.
Just like any other crime.

The curtain goes down and when it comes up again. The stage is set in front of the club where the story started. And out in front is Woody, the homeless guy we met at the beginning. Then  somebody walks out across the stage carrying a sign the says “THREE MONTHS LATER” and as they disappear from the stage, Jellybean walks out and as she see’s Woody in front of the club,she says,
JELLYBEAN: Woody!
Before he could say anything, she was hugging him, despite how he smelled.
JELLYBEAN: I’m so glad your here.
WOODY: There ain’t any where else I’d be Jellybean. This my home. Told you. Been here 20 years. Kinda like a neighborhood mascot. But enough of that. How you doing girl?
JELLYBEAN: I’m al”right. Been through some shit. But I think I’m gonna make it. Yeah, I am gonna make it. Moving back home to NOLEN’S. This town,as cool as it is, kicked my ass. Still love it though. I even met a girl. Well, a little more than met. We meeting up right here. Anyway, I learned some big shit about myself, maybe more than I wanted but that’s life. Right Woody?
WOODY: Well sweetie, I don’t know what your learning, but I can tell you one thing for sure. The only way you can ever move on in life is to learn how to forgive. Because you maybe done with your past baby, but your past well never be done with you in less you learn to forgive. I live out here depending on the kindness of others. In the end, there’s only two thing left. Love and fear. Learn to forgive. Then you can really move on….
And with that Woody begins to sing….

And as Jellybean and Woody stood there, Jake and the crew comes out on stage. They all kinda mob Jellybean saying high. 

JELLYBEAN: WTF GUYS! I thought it was just gonna be you Jake.

JAKE: I know but they all wanted to say goodbye. Besides this well keep me from graveling for you to stay.

JELLYBEAN: Hey don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of things to love, and people to adore. But for now, my time is up…..I’m going home. But y’all can come and see me.
