It’s no surprise that DJ Hybrid hits the Serial Killaz camp with a massive EP full of jungle and mid 90’s influences. ‘Too Deep’ is a monstrous bag of 5 hard hitting, breakbeat infused riddims, each with their own throwback to different events in drum and bass’ history. This is certainly one EP not to miss - period.

For those thinking “you can’t do mid 90’s using digital hardware”.. It’s time to change your mindset.

‘Give You More’ wouldn’t be of any surprise if it was dropped at AWOL in 1994. It’s as if Hybrid has literally rewound time, given it a fresh lick of primer and layered up the final coat with an array of mashed up breakbeats lashed with BIG growling sub bass.

Moving swiftly on to ‘Big Respect’, certainly something due to many of the original foundation of the jungle scene and without a doubt played out well on this heavyweight track. Infused reggae influences combined with dub effects that will no doubt remind you of the old effects machine at Telepathy it’s a sure fire hit aimed at the young, the old and everyone in between.

‘Regrets’ provides the thought of moody atmosphere, smoke machines pillowing out tons of dry ice, lazers licking the heads of ravers through a sweat haze and slow motion dance moves. It’s a guaranteed head nodder whether you’re a side to side or up and down kind of mover - either way, you are going to feel this tune one way or another.

Stopping briefly as the EP’s title track ‘In Too Deep’ takes a stance with its cinematic introduction, brief female vocal samples and then.... Silence. Pause for second before the rollercoaster bass and breaks take you on a musical journey.

Memories of Dreamscape 15 V 16 or United Dance will potentially come flooding back to those in regular attendance at either The Sanctuary or Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre with just one play of ‘Moving On’. It’s as if this tune has nailed the atmosphere and production style of these eras all in one go. Think DJ Red meets DJ Seduction.

All in all this is another tough EP from the Serial Killaz camp, 100% quality with not a single filler or weak tune.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is another attempt at remaking jungle either, this EP is fresh as the morning sun at 6am when you’re being ejected from a venue whilst 100’s of flyers are being stuffed in your hands.

Fresh out of Russia, Ozma delivers a action packed EP to the Serial Killaz camp. With a total of 5 upfront tracks, it’s a big offering to DJs who play across the board. If you like your drum and bass fused between sub genres then this really is one big sonic adventure for your ears.

Ozma’s EP kicks off with a slab of synth chords which some may reflect on being very ‘Piper’. The progressive element of this tune really does take effect from the first beat and it’s dynamic range is something else.

Who would have thought that hip hop vocals, grunge and drum and bass would fuse together so well? Well in the case of ‘University’ it sure is a winning combination. Knock your block off bass combined with a real stick in the mud breakbeat selection provides the ultimate chemistry here.

The sounds of ‘Iron Hammer’ resonate hard through the speaker box as this tough, rough and ready tune smacks 7 shades of bass across the dancefloor. It’s mid section structure change will knock even then most experienced MC in the game momentarily. Drumstep meets industrial drum and bass.

‘Hybrid’ is exactly that, a mixture of styles and flavours that combine into one almighty wallop
of funk.

Finishing up the EP ‘Plutonium’ does a fine job at scattering wide eyed ravers pupils into oblivion with it’s hectic, drum fueled supersonic bass riffs. A high octane ride into the world of Ozma and his wild imagination.

Something a little different from the Serial Killaz camp and maybe a sign for future releases. Drum and bass really is a worldwide offering and with a bucket load of influences from across the border, this EP really does show how far we have come since the early days of the scene being locked down.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Rene LaVice made a huge impression on the drum & bass fraternity with the immense ‘Headlock’ released as part of the ‘Dimensions 5’ EP. The rolling, almost nostalgic feel of the track coupled with Rene Lavice’s intimate knowledge of the studio made for a clear standout track, and led Ram Records to offer this exciting producer an exclusive recording contract.

Here we see the first fruits of that contract, as Rene prepares to unleash the beast in the form of the ‘Absolute Monster’ EP. Spanning four brand new tracks across the vinyl package with the addition of an exclusive VIP mix of ‘Headlock’ for the digital bundle, this is set to catapult Rene Lavice to the forefront of everyone’s minds this summer.

Leading the charge is ‘Dank’ a highly potent brew that’ll have dance floors smoking whenever it’s dropped. Skipping beats and cleverly placed mentasms are delivered alongside chopped vocal snippets and long bass notes that drag you in and don’t let go. 

‘Meow’ employs cheeky P Funk references to great effect. Harking back to the kind of sounds D&B fans heard in ’96 but with an effortlessly smooth updating, Rene Lavice’s attention to detail and crisp production shine through here, creating a track that will undoubtedly be a DJ favourite.

Next up the title track takes you deep into the paranoid side of Rene Lavice’s music. Laden with impending doom, this track is like taking a walk in the woods alone at night; every moment filled with tension, every sound creating anxiety before the drop releases a wave of pent up energy. 

‘Dungeon’ shows another side to Rene Lavice with layer upon layer of percussive energy that rolls along into infinity. Once again it’s the attention to detail that pins this track together as minimalist simplicity clashes with rhythmic complexity.

Finally ‘Headlock’ VIP boosts up the digital package with all the stepping greatness of the original blended up with plenty of twists and turns to deliver a great new take on Rene’s dance floor favourite.

The announcement of the second ever Acts of Mad Men compilation this year has been a hot topic amongst DnB heads since the first single was release with Magnetude’s ‘Friday’. Now, following teases from Halflight, Insomniax, and Blaine Stranger, the fifth taste of this monumental album comes in two parts, both just as loud and proud as their predecessors.

The first side of the single is the highly anticipated Annix remix of InsideInfo & Mefjus’ timeless collaboration ‘Pulsation’. A favourite amongst heads, Konichi & Decimal Bass give the track the Annix treatment for an entirely new take on this definitive dancefloor weapon. Remixing such a well-known track is no easy feat, but Annix blew this one out of the park. A suspenseful intro maintains enough of the original to be recognizable, lulling the listener into a false sense of security before dropping into one of the most heinous drops of the last decade – this one is guaranteed to blow minds left, right, and center.

The second track comes from one of Viper’s newest signings, Jack Mirror, working together with a long time staple of the Viper family, BMotion. ‘Lust’ delivers retro-futuristic vibes with an apocalyptic flair, perfectly fusing together both producer’s unique sounds for a truly memorable result. BMotion’s euphoric melody writing shines against Jack Mirror’s darker soundscapes, the juxtaposition of light and dark making ‘Lust’ an utterly captivating track.

Counting down the days until the release of Acts of Mad Men Vol. 2, this next tease in the form of two new singles serves to increase already high excitement levels for this seminal release.
