'We Are Time' is an exploratory version of one of The Pop Group's most anthemic rallying agitations, taken from 'Cabinet Of Curiosities', a nine-track compilation described by Mark Stewart as equivalent to a lost Pop Group album. 

The compilation opens with the fractured future-funk single ‘Where There’s A Will’, originally released as a double A-side shared with The Slits in 1980, and described by Sager [guitarist] as “The group’s best attempt to mix a message with a groove plus some real free playing. If you are really unhinged you may be able to dance to this.” Next up is the unheard, original Andy Mackay (Roxy Music) produced version of ‘She Is Beyond Good And Evil’, probably the band’s most infamous song and famously covered by St Vincent on the Jimmy Fallon show and throughout her Strange Mercy tour.

Cabinet Of Curiosities continues with previously unreleased songs ‘Abstract Heart’ and ‘Karen’s Car’, and other alternative versions. Of ‘Karen’s Car’, recorded in Finland, Sager recalls “appropriately our final stand with just Stewart, Sager, Smith and Waddington left. This is the sound of paranoia, groove and noise at its height. There was nowhere left to go”.

The Pop Group formed in Bristol in 1977 out of a sense of disenchantment with the increasing conservatism of punk.
Drawing on an eclectic range of influences from free jazz, conscious funk, heavyweight dub to avant-garde experimentalism, alongside contemporaries like Public Image Limited, This Heat and Throbbing Gristle, they were at the forefront of a musical period marked out by its ground-breaking innovation.

Their original missives, which Mark Stewart describes as “an index of possibilities”, still explode with an incandescent spirit and energy, possibilities expanded upon by recent live tours in Japan, America, Australia and the UK and the band's first studio album in 35 years, 'Citizen Zombie'.

"Something happens when you say 'I' in a song, that can't happen in a book," declares Jenny Hval, who's known in her native Norway both as a musician (both under her own name, the moniker Rockettothesky, and with the duo Nude on Sand) and as a published novelist and media commentator. Her songs -- featuring frequently explicit language -- explore subjectivity and sensuality and experiment with male perspectives and voices. But don't call her music "confessional," as that implies guilt and sinfulness, and Jenny makes no apology for who she is or what she's thinking. As she challenges: "How much subject can you take?" Jenny Hval's previous, acclaimed Rune Grammofon album Viscera (2011), recorded with her own free rock trio, overflowed with intimate detail and surrealistic bodily imagery. Innocence Is Kinky -- which also features a string section led by avant garde composer Ole-Henrik Moe -- was produced in Bristol, England by PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish, who helped bring out the intimate qualities of her lyrics and sharpened her improvisational tendencies. "It was a very easy collaboration..." Like contemporaries such as Julia Holter and Laurel Halo, she's weaving spellbinding new forms of intelligent, experimental pop with injections from mythology, theory, gender politics and improvisation.

Speedy Wunderground release their third single, ‘The Bride’ by TOY & Natasha Khan on July 1st.

The track will be available as a limited edition of 250 7” and features a dub version of the track, ‘Here Comes Dub Bride’ on the B-Side.

‘The Bride’ is a re-working of Iranian song "Aroos Khanom" by Amir Rassaie from the record "Funk, Psychedelia and Pop from the Iranian Pre-Revolution Generation", an album which had been on relatively continuous loop in the studio whilst TOY and Dan were working on new material.

After weeks of obsessing over this one song in particular, they decided to cover it and make it the next Speedy Wunderground recording.  TOY took the basic chord pattern of the original track and made it their own.  Natasha then dropped by the studio, heard the track and loved it and started re-working the lyrics (after having them translated) and the melody.  The entire recording was completed in 5 hours.  The speediest Speedy Wunderground yet.

In keeping with the label’s ‘manifesto’ the single was recorded live in the dark with smoke and lazers and features the Swarmatron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJyub78p924.  It was produced by Dan Carey in his South London studio throughout a night and mixed the following day.

On the previous Speedy Wunderground recording session the ‘label ruling’ of ‘no lunch break’ had to be relaxed during recording when members of the Archie Bronson Outfit complained of hunger.  A similar rule-breaking episode occured during their third recording when a rough edit of the track was taken to TOY’s Field Day afterparty and played out to much delight from the crowd before final mixing of the song the following day.

The label released their first single, ‘I Go Out’ by Steve Mason & Emiliana Torrini in February which was followed by the second release, ‘I Was A Dead Duck’ by Archie Bronson Outfit in May.

Speedy Wunderground – A ten-point plan

1. Speedy Wunderground is a new label which begins on February 25th 2013 with the release of “I Go Out” by Steve Mason & Emiliana Torrini.

2. Speedy Wunderground is the idea of producer Dan Carey. Dan will produce all releases. All records will be recorded at Dan’s South London studio. Dan has previously produced Franz Ferdinand, Bat For Lashes, TOY, Willy Mason, Django Django, Emiliana Torrini, The Kills, Chairlift and Steve Mason.

3. Recording of all records will be done in one day and finish before midnight. The recordings will be a snapshot of the day. Mixing will be done the day following the recording, also in one day only. This will prevent over-cooking and ‘faff’.

4. There will be no lunch break during recording and mixing days.

5. Overdubs will be kept to a minimum allowing the recordings to be free of clutter.

6. The recordings will appear in limited runs of two hundred and fifty 7”s, which will be in the shops as soon as humanly possible following their completion.

7. The core of each song will be a live take recorded in the dark with smoke and lazers and somewhere on each record the Swarmatron – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJyub78p924 - will make an appearance.

8. Speedy Wunderground work quickly. There will be as a little delay as possible between recording and release. Speedy Wunderground records will not sit on the shelf gathering dust waiting to be released.

9. Speedy Wunderground will release each year’s recordings as a compilation at the end of the year.

10. Speedy Wunderground Records will not be slow.
