The Anjunadeep Edition 413 with Simon Doty

Burning Man. A celebration of art, openness, inclusivity, music, and friendship. I found community, bonding, forward thinking music, endless inspiration, feelings of awe, and a total loss of the ego.

Energy drives everything. Interactions, visual art, sound, comfort, attraction, fear. On the Playa, we are stripped down to primal feelings. In difficult moments, friends or strangers are there to help.

I didn’t use wifi for 8 days and refused to use my phone aside from taking a few videos, a proper reset mentally that led to new insights about myself, my career, and the meaning of existence.

More than anything, I rediscovered the meaning of my career and life through the destruction of any last ego that was left. As a DJ, it’s not about “me.” My job is to create meaningful connections on the dancefloor. To spread feelings of love and presence, create unity regardless of your beliefs, appearance, and background. To bring together both hippies and influencers, the left and the right, all genders, sexualities, and races. We are all equal. To make the world a better, more unified place via this platform I am grateful to have.

When I was about to take the stage, there was a massive dust storm—you couldn’t even see 2 feet in front of your face it was so intense. When the dust settled down a bit near the halfway point, there were so many thousands of people in the crowd I couldn’t see where it ended.

I played very hard and fast for the occasion… which is thousands of people going crazy in a dust storm.

You can feel the raw energy—I wanted to give the original recording even though it’s a little rough around the edges. 

This set (and Burning Man as a whole) was one of the best experiences of my life. I’m so grateful to have shared my music to such an incredible, passionate crowd. A special thanks to opulent temple for the unbelievable production and the crowd for the insane energy.
