Above & Beyond's latest dance anthem, 'Chains' (feat. Marty Longstaff), is out August 18 through Anjunabeats.

Premiered during the band's Group Therapy 450 celebration at The Drumsheds London last September, 'Chains' is Above & Beyond's second single of 2022 with singer Marty Longstaff, following the release of 'Gratitude'.

'Chains' has been a mainstay in Above & Beyond's sets this past year, played extensively during their 70,000 ticket-selling Anjunafamily Reunion Tour and at festivals across the US and Europe this summer. The band recently headlined their Group Therapy Weekender festival at The Gorge Amphitheatre, WA, which welcomed 22,000 revellers. 

'Chains' is one of two original Above & Beyond productions to appear on their Anjunabeats Volume 16 compilation, alongside 'Projection'. 

Also performing as The Lake Poets, Marty Longstaff rose to prominence with the moving acoustic ballad ‘Shipyards’. The song accompanies the opening credits to the sleeper hit Netflix documentary, ’Sunderland ’Till I Die’. The Sunderland born singer-songwriter is also the voice of Above & Beyond's 'Tightrope', 'Flying By Candlelight’ and 'Gratitude'.

Ronski Speed & DJ T.H.’s collaborative project Sun Decade has released on a number of established labels in recent years, including Suanda Music, Enhanced Music, and Coldharbour Recordings. The pair have received support from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Diplo and more, and been featured in leading playlists like Spotify’s Trance Mission and Apple’s Trance & Progressive.

'Searching In Your Soul' is a collaboration with renowned vocalist and producer Linnea Schössow. Her first appearance on Anjunabeats came in 2012 with a feature on Mat Zo’s ‘The Sky’, as heard on Zo’s GRAMMY-nominated debut studio album, ‘Damage Control’. A jack of all trades, she's worked with many of the world's top DJs and producers, including Hardwell, W&W, Timmy Trumpet and Giuseppe Ottaviani, and co-produced US rapper Jay Rock's 2018 single 'Rotation 112th'.

The stories behind the EP:

Will I Ever Find Love - I wrote this record after I developed quite strong feelings for someone, but the person did not have the same feelings back for me. I’m usually a very happy person, but this experience put me in quite a dark place at the time, which is when I wrote this track. Having never been in a serious relationship with anyone, this track represents the feeling of wondering if you will ever find the one.

Downpour - This record was written in October of 2016 soon after my graduation from Duke University when I was living with family east of San Francisco (in a town called Danville). To clear my mind, I would take walks on a mountain called Mt. Diablo, conveniently about 5-10 minutes away. I get far more inspired from foggy/rainy weather than when it is sunny, so I usually went on long hikes when a rainstorm would be forecasted. One morning I was hiking on the mountain, there was a massive rainstorm, and the fog and the clouds provided some gorgeous views. Later that afternoon, I started “Downpour” based on this experience.

Tassajara - This record was actually written a day or two after Downpour in October of 2016, still with the initial inspiration of fog and rain from my mountain hiking. At the time, I was writing music some 12-16 hours a day, with a single break in the middle of the day for lunch. The main road I would take to get lunch was called “Camino Tassajara.” One day on my way back from lunch, I was testing what is now “Tassajara” on my car’s sound system, when I glanced at a street sign, and the name fit perfectly.

Above & Beyond’s first original collaboration single since 2010 (for those playing at home, that was ‘Anphonic’ with Kyau & Albert) sees the production powerhouse of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki link up with prolific San Franciscan, Spencer Brown.

‘Long Way From Home’ featuring the vocals of RBBTS (Anne Kalstrup & Hendrik Burkhard) is a gentle, melancholic wave of undulating melodies, underpinned by the quartet’s rounded, dancefloor-ready sound. Debuted at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 300 celebrations in Hong Kong, the song considers the experience of loneliness that besets many touring artists. Aptly, the first sketch of the track was laid down by Paavo and Spencer in a Melbourne hotel room - a very, very long way from home.

Says Paavo, “Both Spencer and myself know all too well what it's like being a touring musician.
Filled with totally amazing, high moments, but also lonely moments in hotel rooms far away from home. We'd both been travelling for hours feeling somewhat lost and lonely and ended up spending the day together talking about it all. Later that night, we found ourselves making a song about it all in a makeshift hotel room studio”

Spencer Brown has just finished a world tour with Above & Beyond, playing direct support to crowds across North America, Australasia and Europe. A star on the rise, Spencer is already a mainstay on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint. The prolific 24 year old released his debut artist album, ‘Illusion Of Perfection’, on the label earlier this year.

Spencer Brown & Artem Stolyarov (aka Arty / ALPHA 9) unveil their new collaborative EP, ‘Ariel / Afterlife’.

Debuted during Spencer’s set at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 350 celebrations in Prague, this is the second time Spencer and Artem have joined forces, ‘No Going Back’ from 2018. ‘Ariel’ also featured on ‘Anjunabeats Volume 15’, mixed by Above & Beyond.

Spencer has, quietly, had one of his most prolific years to date: he released a full artist album in January, followed by two companion EPs, a collaboration with fellow San Franciscan Qrion and co-produced the title track of Ben Bohmer’s ‘Phases’ EP.  Spencer recently hosted a charity livestream in San Francisco that raised over $8000 for the family of SB-fan Greg Cohen and the Sarcoma Foundation.

Meanwhile, Arty’s ALPHA 9 project has gone from strength to strength in 2020. He’s released a string of singles on Anjunabeats across the summer and contributed no less than three tracks to Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Volume 15 compilation album. 

We’re excited to say there is much, much more in the pipeline from ALPHA 9 to come this year.
