With releases on Shaboom, Magnetic, Robsoul, DJ Sneak Classics, and his own Cross Section Records amongst several others, London DJ / producer Chris Simmonds, aka Kidsmart, House Proud People, Smooth & Simmonds, Retro Emotion, Private Funk and Bakers Dozen is one of the long-standing veterans of underground house music and a true House Gangster.  Earning his stripes in the 1980's working for Time Radio in London and running Wax Factory Records, meeting and engineering for the likes of Carl Cox, Colin Dale and Rocky (X-Press 2).  It was a release on Richie Hawtin's Definitive Records that really kick started things however, and led to the birth of Cross Section Records.

Chris says his mix for the Gangstercast represents him as an artist because, "I like to take risks, keeps things varied and keep the music tight. I think all those boxes are ticked on this mix."  Talking about his approach for the mix he adds, "Usually before I do a mix I play for a about 15mins and see how I feel. If I feel right I simply press record and play and every track is the mood I'm in at that moment. By the time I've checked myself again I've playing for nearly 2hrs, job done and something different on the end to close. The moment was captured and delivered to you by one of the best djs you've never heard!"

Weekend Workout: Episode 089

With his three track ‘Hustler Stomp’ release currently blazing hot on the I’m A House Gangster label, Sidney Charles drops by with an equally hot mix for the Gangstercast.  The mix features 80 minutes of Sidney’s trademark jacking, stomping and booty shaking house, just the way we love it at HG HQ.

Born as Sidney Charles Hurricane Vieljans in Hamburg, Germany, Sidney’s introduction to music was through the magic of two 1210s spinning Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Breakbeat and Turntablism, before transitioning to the faster BPMs of House and Techno and the culture which accompanied dance music.  Sidney is clear to state that he is not a musician, nor a percussionist, but a collector. A collector of culture and experiences.

Speaking of the I’m A House Gangster sound, Sidney comments, “It’s pumping, raw house, mainly influenced by funk and hip hop orientated samples. The sound represents a certain state of authenticity and realness. As the House Gangster style points out, House Music is not only music, its a way of thinking, acting and living. The attitude towards house music is the most important thing, that stands behind the whole House Gangster sound.”

Moguai and Mau5trap team up to deliver stunning 'Oxygen' EP, and ready his forthcoming artist album 'Mpire' for January 2012

In the past few months alone Moguai has charted a Beatport No. 1 with his Fatboy Slim collaboration 'Ya Mama', featured as a special guest on BBC Radio 1, completed a stunning set of remixes for industry A-listers -- Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Underworld, Rye Rye and Robyn -- and continues to juggle all of the above with an international touring schedule that's bursting at the seams. He is, without question, on the form of his career. But just when you assume that no one human being could possibly fathom any more work, he rears his crafty head once again to deliver us a casual Mau5trap release of epic proportions, and the official announcement of his forthcoming artist album on the very same imprint!

Despite the sheer quantity of music that he's making right now, it remains overtly clear that Moguai does not sacrifice on quality. Oxygen is testament to this. With the breathtaking vocal expertise of Fiora at hand, the style is back to the 'Mau5trap Moguai' of old, but with all of the benefits you'd expect from a producer with that many more months studio experience under his belt. Melodic, haunting, deep and spine tingling, the Moguai/Fiora combination is pure bliss for the ears. A more harmoniously delightful and progressive cut than Moguai has created in a while, Oxygen is electronic music the way it should be made. It's electronic music of the very first order. Set for release on Mau5trap records on 7th November 2011, this might just be the record that skyrockets Moguai to international stardom. It's that good.

On remix duty this time round we have the pleasure of born and bred Londoner and dubstep extraordinaire, Jacob Plant. Living up to all expectations and more, Plant retains the sensational Fiora vocals, and delivers a loud, gritty, hypersonic interpretation that will knock you for six. It's got energy, it's got bass, and it's got a little touch of humour. Complete with a pounding club mix from Moguai to see things off in style, this remix package is the icing on the proverbial cake for what is yet another stunning release from Moguai and Mau5trap.

And as if that wasn't enough to take in at once...we can now announce that the two 'M's' will be continuing their special relationship into the new year, as they prepare to deliver Moguai's stunning artist album 'Mpire'! With a release date set for January 2012 on the mighty Mau5trap imprint, the hype around this is set to reach fever pitch. We can't wait!

Moonbeam’s extraordinary ‘The Random’ artist album/Original Soundtrack caused a major stir in the EDM pond when it arrived at the start of 2013. Through its enigmatically charged singles – which included ‘The Raven’ (“cross-genre sophistication” said MIXMAG) and ‘Flight’ (“enrapturing” – The UK’s DJ Mag), it’s rallied a new generation of Moonbeam fans. Now, anchored around the stunning, multi-linguistics of Avis Vox’s vocal, the Russian duo single-strike again. Welcome to ‘Madness’. 

Moonbeam’s Exclusive Club mix beams Vox’s vocal straight to the heart of the floor, alternatively lamenting and uplifting the track’s tone. Transferring fluidly between its English and Russian lyrics and vocals, its exotic thrall is catalysed by the rush of sonic uplift of Moonbeam’s surrounding production. 

On his remix, Ukrainian producer Spartaque gives ‘Madness’ one of his classic tech-through-techno treatments. Developing a powerful drive through its punchy drums and painstakingly crafted FX, its angular synths deliver a convincing TKO. 

Moonbeam’s Original Mix buzzes with electro fission, providing an even more atmospheric vision for the track. Wrapping things up, German duo Boss Axis bring many shades of house to ‘Madness’. Warming the production to appropriately thermal summer-like temperatures, they provide an entirely unique take on the track.
