You Are Waves

A straight forward, rock n roll guitar instrumental, built from a bed of celtic chords. I needed to do something to get me excited about playing lead guitar again, and this was the inspiration.

This is the first song off The Burgundys Self titled debut. I played bass (i know, wtf?) mixed and mastered the tracks, and provided some additional production/editing. For the most part (98%) this was all captured live. Love this track, my favorite of the ones we were able to record.

For the most part (98%) this was all captured live. This song was, at one point, the official Theme Song for the greatest drinking show on the web, Taphandle-TV.

This is the third song off The Burgundys self-titled debut. It was also the "single". I played bass (i know, wtf?) mixed and mastered the tracks, and provided some additional production/editing. For the most part (98%) this was all captured live. This one is why our audience was 80% female :). That and Sterling's tight trousers

This is the fourth song off The Burgundys self-titled debut. I played bass (i know, wtf?) mixed and mastered the tracks, and provided some additional production/editing. For the most part (98%) this was all captured live. This song shows the band at it's rawest. A crowd favorite.

Rock N Roll Hair - The Burgundys

This is the fifth song off The Burgundys self-titled debut. I played bass (i know, wtf?) mixed and mastered the tracks, and provided some additional production/editing. For the most part (98%) this was all captured live. This one really came together during the final mix. The Guitar melody was hidden in the roughs but it was resurrected and is now the highlight of the song.

On A Mission - The Burgundys

My intepretation of Led Zeppelin's "The Rain Song" - I play this often to get me in the mood for trying interesting Celtic/Alt Tuning ideas. I never play it the same twice. And playing it from top to bottom without mistakes I just learned is TOUGH. But this one is relatively clam free. Please enjoy!

Long-winded explanation below:

I absolutely love the live version of The Rain Song from the Song Remains the Same sound track. As a teenager, I tried and tried to learn the "Led Zeppelin Song Book" version of this song, but good lord, what insane chords (right Brek?). 

Hello Internet!!! I discovered in the mid-nineties (thank you Windows '95 and AOL) that JP uses all sorts of alternate tunings and I discovered an entirely different way to approach this song, the guitar in general and music as a whole. I almost never play in standard tuning anymore. 

This version of The Rainsong I've played for the last 10-15 years. It's an interpretation of an original TAB I found on the web that showed me that JP didn't do this in standard tuning.

I'm sharing this here because, as I embark on my new musical adventure, I plan to post and share influences, thoughts, and examples of what I'm doing and why. This song confounded me as a teenager, but when I was ready as an adult, it opened my eyes to a world of music I didn't know existed and made me a better musician. I owe this song an incredible debt.

The Rainsong - Solo Guitar Cover/Arrangement

This song was written and recorded in the early to mid 2000's. It's a song about regret. Stanza-wise (is that a word?) it's a blues song.  It kinda is a blues song really. It's upbeat but sad all at the same time.

I'm very fond of the electric guitar work; I did some unusual things with editing and backwards tricks to create a very different lead track. This is the only time I've recorded a a melody guitar using a slide. The drums and bass were programmed in SONAR (the one and only time I used that software). There are no keyboards; all the pads and "chimey" sounds were created with guitars.

This is when I really started to develop my finger-picking. I haven't played the guitar with a pick much since about 2009. I should do an acoustic version sometime; there are some really cool finger-picking things lost in the production.

This is a new tune I wrote quickly on Saturday Night, Feb 09, 2013. Celtic tuning, finger picking, kinda jazzy. Recorded shortly after writing it.

This is a sketch I threw together a few years ago. It's based in Celtic tunings but goes all over the map. This tune in particular has a latin feel but the lead phrasing is celtic. I've decided to call this style of writing I'm doing Celtic Soup. Listen and Share!
