Bristol-based live act, producer, foremost artist Gilbert delivers the latest installment of the art:cast series: an one hour and eleven minute lasting journey through his own productions. After having released on labels such as Echocentric Records, his co-run label Innate, which he operates alongside Owain K, 030303 or Distorted Sensory Perception Tom, Gilbert’s surname, the artist teases us with some upcoming and unreleased material in his art;cast, which smoothly fits into his previous releases and enhances the artist’s musical diversity. Speaking of the latter, Gilbert’s art:cast takes the listener on a ride - not only through his own music but foremost through electronic music (sub)genres. Deep almost trancey chords here and there are enriched with some more Acid-bleeps there, Housey basslines make way for more techy ones, pad sequences turn into dreamy soundscapes and club-oriented vibes alternate with those that keep you calm and grounded. Gilbert’s art:cast has many facets to offer but remains true to one vibe, a homogenous construct with all the deepness music has to offer and also the knowledge to put a piece like this together, which wave-like guides one through the different stages of the euphoria, music can trigger.

In this episode I was able to welcome the guys behind a wicked little deep house label called Ordinaire Records, based out of Strasbourg in France. Rony, Alex and Thomas have been putting on parties in their area and have their third vinyl release baking in the oven right now. I’ve played both their previous releases on my past shows so it’s been a pleasure to have them on to lay down 90 mins of their signature sound. Listening back to their mix brought out a lot of nostalgia for me as they touch on some of the sounds I was really into (and still am!) during my formative years in the early 2000s, with records from Inland Knights, JT Donaldson, EBE and more. It is the natural path that can never be ignored.

Born in 1986’ life is permeated by music in every facet, connecting with sound in a way that traverses stylistic genre. His relationship with music is based on deep emotional connection, using it as a conduit to explore himself instinctively and intimately. 

For him music is a portal, an outlet to the isolation one sometimes experiences in a world of dissonances. Emotional soundscapes are painted through his performances, where music becomes a channel to the universe. Strokes of nature are juxtaposed with rough, industrial counterpoint, where he reveals brief moments of happiness amidst the melancholy. 

This transmission is a personal outlet, dreaming with music to create new realities of perception and identity.
