次のペアテストのために、生徒たちはそれぞれの席でサクセンカイギを始めている。テーマは「未来の生活を支えるハツメイを考えよう」

ハルトはそのテーマを眺めるなり、カノンの肩を軽く叩いた。「これさ、今までで一番ワクワクするテーマじゃない？」
「そうだね。でも、ハードルも高いよ。コンカイは絶対に最高のものを作らないと。」

「最高のものね…よし、やるぞ」

「みんなロボットとかエイアイをテーマにしそうだよね。私たちらしいひねりを加えたいな。」
「ひねりか…そうだ！未来の生活って、便利になるだけじゃなくて、もっと人を笑顔にするものがいいんじゃない？」

カノンはその言葉にハッとしたように目を輝かせた。「笑顔…それだよ！人を助けたり、楽しくしたりするハツメイって素敵かも。」

ふたりは放課後や週末を使ってアイディアを練り、試作品の制作に取り掛かった。彼らのアイディアは「笑顔を広げる未来のイス」

「このイスはね、座るとその人の気分に合わせて動くんだよ！」ハルトがコウフンギミに説明する。「例えば、元気がないときは優しい音楽が流れたり、背もたれがマッサージをしてくれたりする。逆に元気なときは、リズムに合わせて軽く揺れるんだ。」

カノンもその説明に加えて、「さらに、このイスは周りにいる人にも気分を伝えるんだよ。背もたれに取り付けたスクリーンで、座っている人の気持ちを優しいイラストやメッセージで表現するの。」

ふたりはカテイにある材料や学校の工作室のどうぐを駆使して、イスの試作品を作り上げる。背もたれにはスクリーンを取り付け、座るとランダムに可愛らしいイラストが表示されるようにする。さらに、スピーカーを設置し、メロディが流れる仕組みを作り上げる。


ペアテストのヒ

「僕たちが作ったのは、笑顔を広げる未来のイスです！」
「このイスは、座る人の気分に合わせて動いたり、音を流したりします。そして、その人の気持ちを周りの人にも伝えるんです。」

ハルトがイスに座ってデモンストレーションを始めると、スクリーンに「今日もがんばってるね！」というメッセージと可愛らしい猫のイラストが映し出された。同時に、柔らかなメロディが流れる。

「おお…！」と感嘆の声が教室中から上がった。

カノンは笑顔で言った。「このイスは、座っている人を癒すだけじゃなくて、その周りの人も笑顔にしたいという思いで作りました。」

ふたりがイスの前に立つと、教室いっぱいの拍手が送られた。

夕暮れの空の下でハルトが言う。「なあ、これが俺たちの最高傑作じゃないか？」
カノンはふふっと笑って首を横に振る。「上手くいったけど、最高傑作っていうのは、これからもコウシンしていけるものなんじゃない？」

「なるほど…次はふたりでもっとすごいものを作ろうよ。」
