Inspired by a haiku written by the Japanese master Bashô (1644 - 1694).

yo no natsu			summer in the world
kosui ni ukamu			floating on the lake
nami no ue			over waves

A joyful play of light, wind and waves. The weather may turn serious, but only temporarily (a passing storm, score nr. 3). Chirping of crickets deepens the night's magic silence (score nr. 4). The sun rises, and it's the summer joy all over again (score nr. 5)...
The compound rhythm (4+3+2+3) has folkloristic associations (the Balkans), but is in fact closer to African rhythms, as it adds up to 12. The consistent use of instruments also shows an African influence: guitars one and two provide the motoric pulse, while guitars three and four firmly hold the main bottom beat and accents.

Rêverie (Dream) is famous work by impressionism composer Claude Debussy. Here you can hear transcribed version for guitar quartet, recorded live in concert.
More proof, as if it were needed, that Claude Debussy was the master of creating dream-like atmospheres in his piano music. Written in 1890, Debussy's Reverie was one of his first solo piano works to make an impact. There are no fireworks here, no sudden explosions in texture that would come to characterise his later works - this is more of a meditation, the perfect precursor to exploring those later works.

The gently repetitive theme that opens the work feels like a descent into sleepy dream-world (as the title suggests), and as the textures become ever richer the dreams only become more lush and addictive. A fantastic early sign that this Debussy fellow was one to watch…

During the years of their continuous activity the Split Guitar Quartet has exceeded its initial role and has achieved a respectable international concert activity. The quartet has held concerts in Germany at the International guitar festival in Augsburg, three concerts in Luxembourg, among these the most important one was held in January 2017 within the prestigious cycle of concerts of classical music „Les concerts du Foyer Europeen“.

At the beginning of 2018 Split Guitar Quartet held a European tour with concerts in Luxembourg, Spain (International festival of chamber music in Torreperogil – Andalusia) and in the Sofia Philharmonic Hall in Bulgaria at the festival Europe Music 2018 organized in the occasion of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. 
In July 2018 Quartet has played a concert within 30th Imago Sloveniae Festival in Ljubljana and the concert was recorded by Slovenian National Radio.

Quartet was awarded for the best classical music concert at Makarska summer festival in 2015 and with special prize for great contribution to the Split's musical scene awarded by City of Split and Croatian Musicians Union in 2016.

Quartet's music has been played in various radio shows at Croatian National Radio – First Channel, Third Channel, Voice of Croatia, Radio Split and Slovenian National Radio – Third Channel.

Quartet's repertoire consists of transcriptions, works originally written for guitar quartet as well as works composed by Croatian composers, which is in line with the tendency to support work of Croatian composers.

Split Guitar Quartet was founded in 2010. The Quartet is formed by prizewinning Croatian guitarists: Kajo Milišić, Josip Dragnić, Goran Cetinić Koća and Martin Andrijašević
