This is my full live PA from Void Tactical Media presents Darkmatter Soundsystem.  What's a Live PA?  For me it means  you make it up as you go and the performance develops in the atmosphere of the party.   Live recordings always have wacky mixes because you're playing off the soundsystem, not in studio - so I wanted to remaster this one a bit before posting.  This set was one of my best experiences playing live, so please enjoy!

This recordings contains a lot of my unreleased material, so I'm leaving downloads off for now.  You'll be hearing some these tracks on Void Tactical and Form and Structure in the near future.

Split Horizon - Live PA  (Recorded at Void Tactical presents Darkmatter, 5/5/12)

The Activator ep showcases some of Split Horizon's newer material, opening a window into how his sound has been mutating since earlier days of hard broken beats.  The title track kicks an unyielding broken drum line against weaving, resonant synths and cleaner, more refined production style.  Interflow manifests as a fluid, morphing force of thick bass that crescendos to a noisy finale.  Further expanding Void Tactical's broken bass style, Activator sums up the last year of Split Horizon's live sets and points outward to the future.

Excerpts from my live set in an abandoned soviet bunker in Praha, atop a snow covered hill on the outskirts.  We navigated closed off roads and snowstorm in the middle of the night, tracking just a GPS coordinate to find a hold in the ground marked with just a candle.  One of the my favorite and most intimate events of the whole tour; complete with navigating dicey power and resetting machines, I improvised a new set to respect this push into the void.  A contribution to the project of bi-component social deconstruction.

Towards the end of our stay in Berlin, we did a Squall FM web broadcast from KlangSynthese.  Good food and friends accompanied our show, which consisted of Key, Simon Kor Funkle, Dimentia, Lain, and myself.  This was my final set in Europe for 2012, and here's what I improvised on this night: something distorted and a bit techno.

Void Tactical Media's provocative first offering takes any pre-conceived notions one may have regarding MotorCity techno and spins them around at 33.3rpm. Split Horizon and Jstat have each combined elements of noise, electro and broken beats to generate music that is a radical departure from the Detroit legacy, but couldn't have come from anywhere else. The four tracks on the record have been honed and refined during countless live performances over the last year, and are served up in final mixes that are versatile enough to be reworked by capable DJs - yet strong enough to stand on their own. Split Horizon is currently located in Oakland, CA.
