JVKE - Upside Down (feat. Charlie Puth)

Carlos Coy better known by his stage name South Park Mexican (SPM) originates from the southern rap Mecca of Houston. SPM built up his own family run record label, Dope House Records to an independent giant signing a global distribution deal with Universal Records back in early 2000’s. With the global distribution in place, SPM expanded his reach throughout the Southeast and developed a cult like following selling millions of records without national exposure. 

Born in Houston's crime infested predominantly Hispanic South Park neighborhood, SPM began a life of crime at the tender age of ten. He tried to beat the odds of the harsh streets of South Park by attending school, completing his GED and going on to college before dropping out to hustle. After several years of hustling on the streets, he finally got out of the dope game after a deal went bad. It was at this time in 1994 that Coy turned to a new hustle: the rap game. Even though he had never really rapped before, he started his own record label and began honing his rhymes. At first he did what he could starting as a Christian rapper, hustling tapes for five dollars a piece in his neighborhood, and by the late '90s, he changed his sound to a more street gangster rap feel and began selling massive CDs on his label through independent distributors. His two 1998 albums “Hustle Town” and “Power Moves” -- established him in the South as an up-and-coming rapper and his rigorous touring throughout Texas won him even more fans. 

Coy won a deal with Universal following the massive independent street sales of “3rd Wish To Rock The World”. In 2000 SPM released two albums entitled “The Purity” and  “Time Is Money” both albums charted on Billboards top 200 charts. The following year, he returned with, “Never Change”. Although Universal heavily marketed the album, as it had done with Time Is Money, the results were similar, no crossover but he continued to sale to his core fan base throughout southeast. His 2002 release, Reveille Park, was a collection of freestyles that was released independently through Dope House records shortly after SPM was incarcerated. Since his incarceration SPM has continued to record and release albums on Dope House Records, including “When Devils Strike” in 2006 which sold over two hundred thousand copies his highest-charting album landing at number 49 on Billboards 200 top album charts. Dope House records continued the legacy releasing “The Last Chair Violinist” in 2008 selling over one hundred thousand copies. 

SPM is now gearing up to release his tenth solo album “Son of Norma” through Dope House Records. The album was recorded previously before his incarceration. These recordings were then re-produced by long time collaborators Pain Ortiz, Happy P, Silero and other well - known producers in the Latin Texas rap scene. The album is a hybrid between SPM rapping his familiar gangster street tales, while revisiting his original uplifting/gospel rap roots. SPM delivers classic Texas Latin gangster rap on songs like “The River”, and “Twenty Eight” while delivering a positive message and a bit of Gospel rap on songs like “Angels”, and “If It Were You”. The “Son of Norma” album will include the lead single “The S.O.N.”, and hot tracks like “If It Were You”, and my “Home girl”. The album is set to release September 16th of 2014 and has been highly anticipated by his cult like fan base for the last six years.
