High Tech Soul Mix by Spoedsky | 30-12-2021

Techno-Tropic Chain Reaction? Well, allow me to give a brief explanation. I’m drawing the parallel between my latest DJ-set and a Controlled Chain Reaction held at a nuclear plant; It’s very energetic, but well-kept between some controlled boundaries, preventing it from exploding. 
Techno-Tropic? I came up with this term by making a contraction between the words Techno and Entropic. For those who are interested in some science; Entropy is the measure of disorder. A chain reaction is kept under control by letting off the heat and as such avoiding it from becoming Entropic. Hence, avoiding it from exploding. Now, are you ready to unleash this chain reaction? If so, enjoy the ride, but be cautious, don’t let it get out of control, we don’t want a 2nd Chernobyl… Furthermore, as a musical side note, I want to add to it that I used this time, next to my beloved Detroit Techno, also quiet some German Techno, from artists like ‘DJ Hell’ and ‘Der Dritte Raum’.

Techno-Tropic Chain Reaction by Spoedsky | 05-02-2022

The last couple of years, we could really witness the revival of Indie Dance, Italo and Dark Disco. These genres are gradually more included by DJ's in their sets alongside Techno, House and Electro music. Actually, something DJ Hell was already doing for quite some time. I believe it was in the year 2000 at  ‘I Love Techno’ that I heard for the first time such a nice blend. What a pleasant surprise it was for me to hear mister ‘Helmut Geier’ mixing down songs like Giorgio Moroder’s “Chase” and Donna Summer’s “I feel love” with his other selected electronic music. I absolutely loved it! Therefor, I created this time a mix, including Indie Dance, Italo and Dark Disco alongside my beloved Techno and Electro music. Due to the crossover between these selected genres, I called my mix ‘Rock The Disco-Tech’. I hope you are also a fan of such extraordinary blend. Enjoy the trip!

Rock The Disco-Tech by Spoedsky | 11-04-2022

After being 9 months back in business, it is time to reflect on my evolution as a DJ. It gave me some time to develop my own style and to think about what kind of a DJ I really wanted to be.
 
I consider myself as being a true practitioner of the art of DJing with the sound of the underground, meaning I don’t use Beat Sync, or any visual tools like staked wave forms, etc. Instead I prefer to manually beat match my tracks. I think it is part of the process of mixing that the beats go off from time to time and that the DJ is capable of manually synchronising them again. A trained DJ ear can hear it, but I don’t mind, because it gives me an extra kick when it is instantly corrected by the DJ. I miss that in a lot of contemporary DJ sets. I guess, I rather listen to a human being, to a real ‘artist’, than to a robot.

Furthermore, I believe track selection is also very important. We should educate our public and introduce to them yet unknown new tracks, which are worth listening to, instead of solely playing the obvious stuff which is already very known by the mainstream.

I mentioned the ‘sound of the underground’. Well I play mainly Techno, preferably things that are created by the TR 909, it gives that specific mystical sound to a track, which I associate with ‘Detroit Techno’. I combine my Techno with House and Electro, and many times I use Indie Dance, to bridge between them. Occasionally, I like to put a pinch of old and contemporary Italo and Dark Disco.

What concerns the mix, it resembles the above mentioned, that is why I called my mix ‘Artefact’. Enjoy the ride!

I was invited by 'Karousel Events' to play the opening set at their event, 'Klassiko 2023'. As the name might suggest, this was an event organised as an ode to the Belgian House and clubbing scene of the '90s.

As I grew up in the '90s, listening to electronic music, visiting clubs like the 'Fuse' and 'Café d’Anvers', and also DJ-ing; I knew what to do, play some good old House and Techno music from Detroit and Chicago.
This being said, It must be no surprise to you that my set contains a lot of Detroit and Chicago classics, which were played back in those days in the above mentioned clubs. I tried to combine these classics as much as possible with contemporary techno and house music that also resemble the sounds of the '90s, making as such the set a nice integrated and cohesive whole.

What concerns the classics, I tried to use remastered and reworked versions as much as possible for the sake of a better sound quality. I hope you don’t mind.
Furthermore, I want to thank 'Karousel Events' for giving me the opportunity to play at their event, after being inactive for almost 20 years, sharing the decks together with some wonderful DJ's, like 'Phi Phi', 'Manu Riga', 'Jimmy Goldschmitz', and 'Leo Diaczo'.

Kompakt Open Air Entry (DJ Contest) by Spoedsky | 21-06-2024

Remember that I participated in the 'Kompakt Open Air' DJ contest? Well, let's tell you a story in order to get you up-to-date. 

After submitting my mix: https://soundcloud.com/spoedsky/kompakt-open-air-entry?si=9531fb1420244a44a798be74e53ec556&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing , I got selected in the first round with the 16 best ones. After that I won the 2nd round in my poll with 66% of the votes on instagram. 🙌🏻 Nevertheless, they had forgotten to select me for the finals. 🙄 I had to contact them to inform them about their mistake... It took them exactly until 2 days before the finals would take place to inform me about the fact that I could also participate, leaving me with the very difficult task to get my fans informed about the event in such a short matter of time. 

At the finals on the 6th of July, 2024 @ JDH Bizar, I learned to my great surprise that there was no jury present. No, it would be done by a voting via a QR code, putting me even in a bigger disadvantage. 🙄 But look at the cover art of my set; Who got the most votes in the end? I got the first place with 61%! 😎

Nevertheless, they selected the 2nd in place as the winner. They disqualified me because of online votes (which was not mentioned, by the way, in their voting rules). One of my friends had taken a picture of the QR-code and sent it into some groups on our socials, leaving me eventually with more votes than there were people present on the event 😂. Now, a small detail, the second in place probably, used the same technique, only a bit less pronounced...   

Nevertheless, I'm pretty proud of my performance that evening. That's why I decided to put my set online for the ones who want to enjoy it again! 🎧🎶

Spoedsky @ Bizar (DJ Contest Finals), Buggenhout, Belgium  | 06-07-2024

On the 9th of August, I played a set from 1 AM to 2 AM at 'De Bak' in Peer, in honor of the presentation of the delicious beer 'Elite Tripel'. 🍺
Just like the beer, my set was pretty strong and had a lot of character. 💪🏻😎 It  contained mainly 'hardgroove techno', and was played on a pretty high tempo of +/- 144 bpm. 
I'm also happy to inform you that I recorded my set and that I made it readily available for everyone who wants to enjoy it again. Have fun! 🎧🎶

Luc Buntinx AKA @spoedsky is a Belgian Techno DJ, who plays mainly 'Hardgroove' combined with other genres like 'Acid' ,‘Raw Techno' and 'House'. He used to spin vinyl at student parties in Belgium from 1998 until 2004.

In the beginning of 2022, he rediscovered his old hobby and started to DJ again, this time digital with MP3’s on CDJ's. He can be considered as a true practitioner of the art of DJing, as he still applies an old school mixing style.

Since his restart, he was already booked for plenty of events, on national and even international level, playing besides Belgian venues, also on underground venues in Spain and Peru. 

With his latest performance, he won several DJ contests and since the end 2024 he also became a member of a Spanish collective, called 'People from Ibiza'.
