When you're young, typically people around you want you to believe in many different things. They tell you about Santa, or Peter Pan, or monsters under your bed--things that aren't real. And when you grow up, you're supposed to realize that on your own. When I was younger I was told to believe in Jesus. As I grew older I realized if I was just "told" to then I didn't really believe in Him. It's something you have to prove to yourself and to Him. He saved us on that cross, and if you believe that you've got to know it. I realize that I can't not believe in God even if I tried. It's like believing the sun will come up each morning. I didn't believe in Him just because I was told to. I believe in Him because He loves me. I wanted to get that message across to many people, seeing that many people contradict our faith by saying "if you weren't raised in it you wouldn't believe in it." Maybe they're right. That's why we have to prove our love through evangelization. It's one thing to just go to Church, and it's another to live the gospel. That's the message  I hope to send with this poem.

A FTPW from Canada continuously said "God is in the details" when we were prepping for ENAC. And that has stuck with me ever since. All the poem is just taking that mindset and applying it to the most beautiful place on Earth: the mass.

There's so much beauty in the mass, beauty that all 5 of our senses can take in. And beauty even beyond our senses. "Beauty" is just pointing out some of the beauty I see within the details of mass.

this first poem is called "the beginning." this was the first spoken word poem i've ever written, and i wrote it around the time i started my freshman year. i noticed how much people took their catholic faith for granted, and how no one took mass seriously. it made me think twice and really inspired me to write about how everything is a blessing. it only takes one step towards God to change how we see the whole world around us.

the second poem is called "struggles." i wrote this when i was especially struggling with judgment. i felt like my faith was almost something to be ashamed of, that i had to hide such a huge part of my life from my friends and classmates. i soon realized that i needed to be who i am, a daughter of God, no matter who was watching.

this last poem is called "love." this was inspired by everything that has happened throughout the past week or so, with the orlando shooting and the passing of christina grimmie. my heart was absolutely broken and i couldn't bear these thoughts of prejudice in our world. we all need to know that even when we can't find love and hope through tragedy, God is there to pick up our broken pieces and make us whole again.

What inspired me to write this poem was realizing the amount of chaos going on in the world and in my life. During the time I was writing this poem, I was going through tough times with my relationship with God. I had so many doubts, fears, and questions for God so i wrote it all down. Also during this time however, I realized that there's no need to worry and question God because no matter what, God will always be there for us. I decided to write all of these thoughts in a poem
